let there be light

We set off to Lowe’s this morning, in search of new lights and several other items. We received a sizable sum of money and gift cards, and were anxious to begin on the kitchen.

Little did I know that we’d be replacing the lights in the kitchen today. I came home from running and found the husband tearing down the drop ceiling. His hard work paid off, though, and we now have track lighting in the kitchen. We also have a pretty nifty blue and green (with pears) wallpaper showing.

Ignore the yellow tint, but notice the pretty track lighting!

This was the kitchen before:

We also purchased solar powered lights for our sidewalk and installed those (they were simple.) It’s dark now, but just trust me that they’re pretty and we think that our lights will be the envy of the entire street.

Our next house project will involve the wallpaper in the kitchen. Paint over it (the rest of the kitchen has paint over wallpaper) until we figure out what color we *really* want it, or strip the wallpaper and take the paint plunge? I go back to work on Monday but am off on Wednesday and Thursday. We have the weekend to think about it.

  1. Wow, what a change! It looks awesome.

    PC and I stripped an entire room of wallpaper, and it wasn’t as bad as everyone warned. After living in a rental that had paint over wallpaper, I definitely recommend stripping. We used diluted fabric softener (Downy) to soften the wallpaper, and it came off quite easily with a scraper.
