Long(ish) drives
I drove to Winston-Salem on Wednesday. It was a planned trip for work. I was driving a student over to meet up with colleagues and then I’d head back to Asheville. Plans kind of changed and I drove home only to drive to Charlotte and back on Thursday.
I used to make these kinds of trips all the time. I rented a car, and was given a mini SUV which is SO not my thing. (It’s what they had available. They didn’t have what we originally requested.) I’m terrified as it is to get into an accident in a rental, but a rental that is so much bigger than my normal car? Oy.
Driving to Winston-Salem was fine. I had someone to talk to and we talked about everything! It was fun! Driving home was boring. A little lonely. Heading to Charlotte wasn’t awful, but in the almost 3 hours it took for me to get to Charlotte (I stopped once, and was stopped in traffic a few times), I had received over 100 unread emails! Nobody deserves to be that popular. It appears I need to spend some time unsubscribing from lists this weekend.
I don’t know when these day trips became such a hassle. Gone are the days I can drive to Atlanta for a concert and home the next morning. My poor body can’t handle it.
I’m glad my only drive this weekend involves to work and back or to the movies and home. I am not quite sure when I turned so old, but I’m ok with dealing with crazy Asheville driving for the time being.
I’m with you! I hate driving! I used to do it all the time, but I’m so out of practice! Have a good weekend.
