Lowest-key Valentine’s Day
The husband and I had date night last night, and we kind of made it our Valentine’s Day date. We generally go to dinner and do something over the weekend of Valentine’s Day, and the past few years, my mom has watched the boy. This year, she kept him overnight.
I had big plans to sleep a LOT because he wakes up freakishly early every day, but I found myself wide awake before 7 a.m. (and even earlier. I just couldn’t sleep.)
(That’s a photo of a photo we had taken at Portrait Studio two weeks ago. How much fun does he look like he’s having??)
So. We went to an early movie, then dinner at Tupelo Honey. After that, we found ourselves at REI and finally at Target. While in Target, we realized we really hadn’t done anything – not even cards – for the big commercial holiday. I had purchased something small for our boy, but I didn’t buy him a card (he doesn’t look at them. He’d prefer candy or toys.)
In the end, we decided that we could forego everything this year. I thought I’d feel differently, but I really couldn’t complain.
Today I moved more stuff around in the house, did some cleaning and when Lucas came home, we were able to enjoy each other after his nap (because he was a terror before that nap. The kid will listen to grandparents willingly, but his own parents? Nope.)
I think the biggest thing we did was read books in our bed (normally we read in his room.) He loved it. And his bedtime wasn’t awful, which it’s known to be. He loved his Star Wars chocolates, and he knows he’s loved.
There’s still a chance I’ll make a belated Valentine card for my husband, but for now I’m satisfied knowing we enjoyed each other’s company last night and didn’t stress over anything today.
