miscellany Monday – Father’s Day, camping and Kelly Clarkson’s baby
(Sometimes I really, really miss the miscellany Monday link up. It gave me an excuse to be completely random.) So here are my random thoughts this fine Monday morning.
1. We took our first camping trip this weekend. That marks one thing off our bucket list, it accomplished my goal of finding a really cool Father’s Day gift and we all survived. It deserves it’s own post. (So be sure to check back!)
2. The area we camped had no cell signal. I knew there was no wi-fi (it was a pretty fancy camp/resort…if you can make camping fancy.) And we left the iPad at home (didn’t even use it for the drive.) We were disconnected for 24 hours and it was pretty nice. And interesting.
3. When we returned home, my husband noted that he had 18 Facebook notifications. The first thing I had checked? People magazine and I learned that Kelly Clarkson had her baby. #priorities
4. We had friends over for dinner last night. These friends are moving to the Raleigh area this month (making me super sad). It was fun to watch the kids just be kids. And, hello, SUMMER. Lucas stayed up a little later (again) but actually fell asleep close to his normal time. He was asleep when I left for work this morning. Because, SUMMER.
5. I have been working on a website for several months (obviously not full-time.) I finally made the server switch on Friday night and some updates last night. It’s almost completed and I’m so excited about it. (I wish I had screenshots from the previous site – which is not something I had worked on or developed.) It’s so crazy different. And clean. And mobile-friendly.
6. My boy’s birthday invitations have been ordered! His birthday is the end of August. I’m really excited about them – and this also means I cannot change the dinosaur theme! (I ordered them super early because the credit I had was expiring yesterday.)
7. My friend Susanna has posted her summer bucket list today (and included a link up!) I actually want to steal a couple of her ideas. Is it bad if I revise/create a second bucket list? Also, I just realized that I had left 3 things off my list from my original written list. This can only be described as a blogger problem.
8. Do you use the Timehop app? It gives you reminders of what you posted a year/two years/x amount of years ago on that day in social media. I love it. And this gem was in my app yesterday.
How was your weekend? (Do you know of any miscellaneous link-ups I can join, since my original one is no more?)
Both of my boys have August birthdays, too! They are 13 days apart and I have a joint birthday party for them!!
When I”m unplugged, I panic at first but then I settle in and totally enjoy it! It’s true freedom!
My weekend was hectic ad with everyone watching the world cup 3 matches a day everyone is pretty exhausted at the end of everyday lol.
That’s good that you can’t change the theme. Or at least it would be for me, lol.
That smore makes me want to go camping. 🙂
I love the smores photo! I haven’t been camping in ages… not sure I could hack it anymore.
I unplug on the weekends to spend time with the family. I love watching the kids play outside and have fun. I have seen the time hop app but haven’t used it. 😉 I like looking at old pics so I may have to give it a try.
A bucket list is nice. Sometimes it is nice to unplug and get away like on your camping trip.
There is something nice about unplugging… though yes I get twitchy at first 🙂
So glad you had fun camping. I miss Miscellaneous Monday too, my Friday 5 is kind of similar just at the end of the week though 🙂
I have not heard of the Timehop app. That would be very useful. I may have to check that out.
Love the misc. posts! We still haven’t been camping with my kiddos…and I’m okay with it. Timehop is always a tear-jerker!
Camping is something I have never done with the kids. they are not big outdoors kids
Funny how we have to be forced to go offline sometimes but then find how nice it can be 🙂 I look forward to seeing your new site.
My weekend was fantastic…lovely weather and great company!
Being unplugged is quite the experience at first, isn’t it! Timehop is so fun to get a quick look back!
Even though Summer has already begun I have been considering making a bucket list to experience new things and favorites with my little one. I really want to take a trip to Lego Land this Summer and also the Zoo!
You made me feel bad about the invites until I saw you had a code! I’m notoriously bad at waiting until the last minute to order ours! My boys want to go camping this summer… I think I need to put that on our bucket list, even if it ends up being a backyard campout!
We went camping when our oldest two were younger (about 3 and 4). We haven’t braved the campgrounds with our youngest yet. I want to go this fall, though.
Never heard of this app, I camped for over 20 years with the kids. My Fathers Day was wonderful, loved spending time with family.
You wanting to know if Kelly Clarkson had her baby made me laugh out loud! I had no clue- thanks for filling me in. I haven’t tried the TimeHop app, but it certainly looks like something that would benefit me.
First of all, that picture of your boy eating the s’more is the cutest thing ever! Also, you ask a very good question regarding revising a bucket list? I think it would be okay to add items but not take anything away. I have got to get the Time Hop app. I do the whole “awwww” think every time you and my neighbor post a picture from it, so you would think I would do it myself! So glad camping went well.
Kelly Clarkson was pregnant?! Ha! I also have an app that shows you pictures from a year ago called Heyday. I love that thing! PS, congrats to your husband!
When we went to Savannah I tried my best to “unplug.” It almost worked- until the hubby passed out on in the hotel room and I ran for the iPad!
How awesome to have forced break from phones and internet! I haven’t been camping in years….need to go soon!
I actually did have the Timehop App I forgot all about it, I should reactivate it because its cool to see memories even from a year ago that you completely forgot about!
I’m going to have to check out the timehop app. I have seen people sharing on facebook but didn’t realize it was an app. LOL It sounds like a cool way to share some memories.
Glad you were able to check camping off the list! I totally think you are allowed a redo
Haha I was stoked about Kelly Clarkson’s little one too. Her name is adorable! River!
kelly clarkson had her baby?!? i’m a terrible fan for not knowing that!
My weekend was great! We gave the husband his daddy day gifts, then a nice dinner and movie time. It was fun!
I’d love to be disconnected for a few days
I’d love to be disconnected for a few days. That would be a vacation itself
I’ve never heard of the Timehop app. I need to check it out. Glad you and the family had fun camping!
I bet it was awesome disconnecting for 24 hours. The hubs and I did that this past weekend and it was a joy.
Our family just took our first ‘successful’ camping trip (long story) and it was filled with so many good things like new memories, family bonding and of course smores.
I notice everyone has been using Time Hop. I need to try it to see what it pulls up for me.
Beautiful photos and it sounds like a great family weekend. I am looking forward to reading more about your camping trip.
I bet being disconnected for 24 hours was really nice. I need to do that myself this summer.
I so want to experience camping with my kiddies. I used to camp out all the time as a child and had a blast. Had no clue Kelly Clarkson had her baby. Must check that out.
Lots of cool stuff in this post.
First, I can’t remember the last time I unplugged – like, for real. I probably should… soon.
I hadn’t heard of the app you mentioned. Very cool!
I would love to take the kids camping and just unplug. I am so tired of their faces buried in their electronics. Some bonding without wifi would be wonderful!
Now I am having a strange craving for smores. LOL. Looks like a fun time. Not for sure I could be unplugged for that long.
Oh I’ve been seeing that Time Hop thing and I’ve really been curious. I need to get it. Oh and good for you – unplugging for the day. Not that you had a choice haha… but I would be going crazy. I’m not sure if I could handle it haha.
I love this totally random post! maybe YOU should start a Monday Link up! (then teach me how to participate LOL)
Father’s Day weekend around here is pretty low key w/neither of us w/our dads around or children of our own I occasionally will do something for or with my grandpa or step dad but we don’t make a fuss about it per their request. I guess I did make breakfast on Sunday while he tended the yard….
Yep, I think I could get on board w/a Miscellany Monday link up!
