Rather than refer to this as miscellany Monday, let’s go for old school blogging. m’kay?

We went to the zoo this weekend. We spent the night in Asheboro (just over 3 hours from our city of Asheville) on Friday night, so we could be at the zoo bright and early Saturday. The hotel was fabulous. My son does not sleep well when in the same room as my husband and I. It was torture and we were all tired for our zoo trip. More on the zoo trip to come this week. Promise. (This was taken a few minutes after we left the zoo.)

I spent 5 hours in the sun Saturday. I was way protected from the sun. No sunburn. I spent time mowing after the sun’s “peak” hours Sunday. So much sunburn. I simply forgot about sunscreen (and I was in a lot of shade.) Please pass the aloe. (Also, this is just a stupid, stupid move on my part. I’m usually way smarter than this.)

I bought a shimmer-y yellow nail polish and tried it late last week. My fingers looked like I had a fungus. It was gross. Major cosmetic fail. I like to switch things up and have some fun, but now I’m back to a tried and true, bland mauve color from Formula X by Sephora. I’m meeting today with people who I’ve never met before (in person) and I don’t want to scare them away too much.

This week is going to be crazy. With a capital C. Meetings today. Traveling Wednesday. Not home until Saturday. Scheduling nightmare as my husband is also traveling at the end of the week.

I didn’t log onto my laptop for over 36 hours this weekend. It was blissful. I need to do that more often.

We had pool time Friday night at our hotel, and again Sunday afternoon and my friend’s house (she happens to be my former boss.) The toddler loved it. He loves to “swim with his feet” (which means he’s swimming on his own, with a life jacket.) My goal was to tire him out. Bedtime was mostly a breeze. I love summer.

I’m counting down the days until our vacation. Beach time. Plenty of sunscreen. Lots of fun to be had and memories to be made.

  1. Sounds like me, remembering one day, thinking I am immune the next. I just hope my son isn’t like me in that regard a s I send him off to sleep away camp with sunscreen that better get used!

  2. The last sunburn I got was when I was setting up the trampoline. It’s those daily chores and projects that get us! I’m usually really good about protection too.

  3. My kids always have sunscreen on they are mixed race.My hubby obviously has no problem with sun burn its not like he needs a tan anyway lol.Me i can go out in the sun all day get a great tan and never burn i love it but i still think kids should wear it no matter what. Not sure on yellow nail polish lol.

  4. I hardly ever use sunscreen unless I will be in a big pool all day! I usually use dark tanning oil that has a little SPF. However with my son it’s a TOTALLY different story! I probably over sunscreen him if that’s even a thing! lol At the beginning of summer he gets a 50 SPF and the rest of the summer is at least a 30 SPF. He is mixed, pretty light skinned and still ends up darker than me by mid summer !

  5. Okay, so I will be sure not to buy yellow nail polish, although I agree that in theory, it should be a really fun color. Oh well. I truly need to unplug more often. It feels so good to do so. If we don’t force ourselves, we can be on our laptops 24 hours a day. It’s madness!

  6. the worst sunburn I get are from cloudy days. I always think I don’t need it and then sit out all day exposing myself and always wind up taking a cold shower and slathering myself in aloe!

  7. I love the moments like these where I am so busy that I do not even have time to login to my computer or check my social media. I think we should do it more often considering it’s so easy to lose track of time and the important things once we tap into technology.

  8. Sounds like a great weekend, soaking up the sun. I had a great one too. For the first time in months my bf was here and not off working, so we had some great time together.

  9. Wow 36 hours with no computer is a fantastic way to spend the weekend!! I am always applying sun screen on the kiddos. I have known a couple people have have gotten skin cancer and just won’t chance it with the kids.

  10. Yes old school blogging, where people just talk about their lives and not all sponsored/campaigny post! Thanks for sharing your weekend with us!

  11. You are busy! Not sure I could keep your schedule. Yes sunscreen always, too many of my friends lately have gotten results that are not good with their skin biopsies.

Love the pictures and your little one asleep in the car seat. So cute.

  12. Sounds like you had a fun week… except for the sunburn, of course. That’s the worst! The zoo is one of our favorite places to visit with the kids.

  13. Oh no, sunburn?? I have only had a sunburn once (I can thank my italian heritage for that), but I remember it being awful. It was after being in the sun for an extraordinary amount of time, lol.
