Mother’s Day recap – and a break is needed

Am I a blogger if I don’t update you on my Mother’s Day? Probably not.

There is a lot of pressure for Mother’s Day, and in reality, I just want to keep things simple. Someone remind me of this next year, okay? I don’t need a lunch or dinner out (because my kids don’t allow me to relax over a meal in public.) I don’t need extravagant gifts. I just need some downtime with my family, and maybe a picture where everyone is looking at least halfway happy.

I mostly got the photo this weekend.

In fact, this photo was tough. My kids weren’t feeling it. It was 87 degrees and my daughter insisted on wearing a winter coat outside. Because 2, y’all.

As I type this, I am home with two sick kiddos. One is getting over an upper respiratory infection (and possibly something more, but her fever broke over a day ago and we are just waiting for the antibiotics to really take effect.) The other is battling a fever and hoping he can go back to school on Thursday. Our county schools are closed tomorrow so teachers can attend a rally in Raleigh, if they desire. (And while my family would love to be at that rally, it isn’t feasible for us to go to Raleigh this week.)

It’s taking me hours to write this. Because at this point, the kids are in bed. My daughter has already woken up twice and it’s only 9:32. I physically can’t take another night like last night where I was caring for a child every hour until 1 a.m. It’s exhausting.

So Mother’s Day. It was a decent day. The toddler got really sick the night before, so I wasn’t sure what we were going to deal with on Sunday. My brother was in town. I was supposed to watch the toddlers during church, but had to cancel when my own toddler got sick all over me.

But come Sunday, she appeared to be feeling a little better (looks can be deceiving.) My family had lunch with my mom, grandma and brother near our house. There are no photos because it was chaos. My husband and son worked in the yard, I planted a good portion of our garden, the toddler napped. Dinner was nice (at home) and we just spent the evening relaxing.

My husband gave me a really nice gift card to a spa. My son picked out a gift card for me to Chuck E. Cheese’s….so I guess I know where I’m going soon! I figure I’ll hit the spa after a day out to CEC with my kids. 😉

I hope your weekend was wonderful and you were able to celebrate the moms in your life!
