New year…off to a good start

We had a low-key New Year’s Eve celebration. It was pretty awesome, for the most part. I was thinking back on other NYE activities we’ve done, and I believe I like the ones we spend at home more than the years I’ve spent at parties. I’ve been to my share of NYE concerts, and while most of them were fun, staying home is just so much less stressful!

So I made a pizza last night (and tried a new recipe for half of it – spinach and feta…it needs some work) and I invited my mom and friend over for dinner. My friend came over as soon as she got off work. Following dinner, my mom headed home, while my friend, husband and I started an epic game of Uno. My husband made hot-buttered rum, and all was good with the night. Around 9:30, the doorbell rang. And someone knocked. I looked at my husband, tried to get him to answer it and I lost.

It was a neighbor of ours (who we had never met.) He had run into our friend’s car, which was parked on the street. It was a complete accident, and I’m honestly relieved that he was nice enough to come tell us. She could have left two hours later and not even known. (It did a lot of damage to both cars, but nobody was hurt.) She honestly couldn’t have been hit by a nicer person. And we met a neighbor in the process. so it’s kind of a lose-win situation.

I woke up this morning and just lounged with Chloe and the husband – exactly how Saturday mornings are supposed to be.

The husband put our new entertainment stand together, and I did a bit of shopping this afternoon. On my way to the mall, I saw a homeless person standing in the rain. I gave him the change I had in my console, and he then asked if I was going to college. I told him “no” and he asked me “you really aren’t a college student?” That may have been the best compliment I’ve had all year! šŸ˜‰

As far as resolutions go, I want to be smarter with my money, do some investing by this summer, and we have a few home improvement projects we’d like to tackle this year. (Oh, and I’m going to continue with my photo blog – www.picturemylife365.com – so check it out when you get a chance!)

I have high hopes for 2011. I feel like this is going to be an amazing year, and so far, we’re off to a terrific start.

  1. We went to the mall today and a couple of guys came up to tell my husband that the truck parked next to us had bumped his jeep, there was no damage done but it was nice of those guys to look out for a total stranger.

  2. Happy New Year. We had a very quiet and laid back NYE and NYD. Funny thing, I’m still very tired from last week & have been getting lots of rest. etc. Guess, starting monday, I have to get into a real routine,up at a certain, to bed at a resonable Hr., with th TVshut OFF. I guess that’s what I’ll be working on, for a positive step in 2011! Have a nice rest of the weekend…….

  3. Isn’t is funny how the best New Year’s Eve’s are the ones where we just keep it low key and stay in with loved one? Does that mean we’re getting old? LOL. šŸ™‚

  4. our NYE tradition is going up to my sister’s house. b/c of her kids, we just stay at home playing games (apples to apples is a favorite of mine)
