Obama, part two…

…got a surprise work assignment today. Heard that Barack Obama would be over at 12 Bones Smokehouse at lunchtime (we had a reporter there) and I headed over with our chief photographer so we could try and get photos and video.

First, we had to stay quiet. We were quiet. The entire time we ate lunch, we talked a little to each other and watched our equipment on the other side of the table.

And Obama did show up. And it was way cool. I didn’t meet him, but I was a few feet away from him, and that’s something…

Someone with the Secret Service saw me after Obama had left and asked if I was the one who was sitting at the far end, drinking a Coke. (I would never drink Coke…) I replied, “It was Cheerwine, and I also ordered lunch.” He said I didn’t look suspicious at all, to which I replied, “you were sitting by yourself looking around at everyone – like that didn’t look suspicious.” Those Secret Service peeps…

It was fun. Obama heads to Nashville tomorrow, and I must say that covering his visit might be the biggest assignment I’ve had to date. Pretty cool…

Now, if McCain wants to make a visit, I’ll be happy to follow him around town.
