Old School Blogging: 5 Random Things About Me #OSBlog #NaBloPoMo
I’m joining Elaine for Old School Blogging again. This month’s topic is 5 random things about me!
1. I worked at Yankee Candle seasonally (the Christmas season) twice. And one of those seasons extended for several months afterward, since I got engaged and needed some extra money for our wedding. I also used the discount for reception decor. It was pretty great. I still have boxes of candles that I purchased during my time working there. It’s kind of an addiction.
2. I don’t eat traditional breakfast foods. I’m not a fan of eggs, sausage and many breakfast foods. Give me oatmeal. Or Cheerios (without milk.) Pancakes and turkey bacon? Totally. But not eggs. Anything besides eggs.
3. I craved eggs when I was pregnant. I never gave into the craving, though. For some reason I just couldn’t bring myself to do that.
4. My first job was in retail, when I was a freshman in college. I lasted a summer, winter break and spring break before I quit. The next summer, I worked temp jobs in offices. Office jobs suit me so much better than retail. I have worked at JCPenney and Yankee Candle (see the first random thing in this list), but those were part-time jobs in addition to my full-time gig as online producer. Web people at newspapers don’t make a ton of money. (Also, when I was in high school, I applied for jobs at McDonald’s and a local grocery store and I never got so much as a call back for an interview.)
5. When people ask me where I’m from, I tend to stumble. Am I from Asheville, if I moved to the city in 4th grade? Am I technically from upstate NY, since that’s where I lived when I was a really young child? I get asked this question a lot because I don’t always have an accent (it tends to be neutral.) Many people ask me on the phone, especially, and claim that I “don’t sound like you’re from around here.”
So.
Do you share any of the same random things? Are you 100% sure you know where you are from? (Because I’m still debating that.)
I worked at JC Penney too! My first paying job š
My first long-term job was at a movie theater (best job ever for a teenager). Before that, I worked for two days at the General Motors Family Fun Fair and for two days at Dairy Queen. I didn’t have my drivers license yet, and my mom decided it was too much to drive me to and from work so I had to quit.
I don’t like breakfast food for breakfast, but I like omelets and bacon for dinner. I am a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
I love eggs and my first job was actually in retail as well. I lasted about 2 week before quitting. I just couldn’t do it but I have major respect now for retail clerks.
I have an issue with the “where are you from” question too. I was raised in Austin, TX, lived 15 years in the DFW area and now have lived in LA for 5 years. I us usually just say , “I am a Texan” but that leads to more questions… š
I am coming over for breakfast!!!
What’s funny is that when I was pregnant I developed an aversion to eggs. It took YEARS before I could get away with eating “fake” eggs, like DD sandwiches, etc. The patties. Now I can do it, but it varies. š But sign me up for pancakes and turkey bacon, for sure.
I do know where I’m from. I lived there my whole life – practically – before moving to NC. So I can without a doubt say NY.
My very first job at 15 was at Toys R Us. I also worked at JCP later in life. I was there at 4am to meet the trucks when they came, restock and tidy up the store. There was our boss and us 3 college kids. We had a blast. Worked until just after opening and then go home. Took a nap and headed to class.
I am definitely from New York and I still live here! I have ventured to other states but never found a place I liked better.
I’m super jealous of your yankee candle job and collection! š You and my hubby sound like breakfast twins! š Love these random posts!
i love love love eggs. could eat them every day. more than happy to take your share.
Nothing in common with your random things. But I love being random does that count.
Its funny – I was just talking about how my 6 year old, self declared vegetarian is now deciding she’s not eating egg either.
1. I hate eggs with my whole heart. They are from the devil because they are disgusting but at the same time they make cake happen….very tricky eggs, very tricky!
2. I was born in Los Angeles but I was raised in KS so when I’m asked where I’m from it depends on how cool I want to sound…or that’s how it was when I was younger and never wanted to be from KS or live there. Now I’m plain Theresa from KS who has CS running through her veins according to her mama.
I also worked at a Dillons when I was in high school. It was my second job with my first being a Spangles, which is a restaurant only in Wichita, KS that has amazing burgers. I quit Spangles because it interfered with my band schedule…amazing and I don’t remeber what happened to Dillions…probably fired because of missing to much work to sneak off and have sex with D…*disclaimer I married him and I was homeless back then so work, school and sexual activities were hard to juggle!*
I am not an egg fan either. Even the smell of them is off-putting. I don’t mind them in baked goods, though. š
Oh the candles…I have a very unhealthy relationship with candles. I wouldn’t be allowed to work there. Actually, I wouldn’t allow myself to work there. EVER.
You’re not a breakfast gal. Me not so much either but I do have to have something or I pass out. I loathe milk so like you, I go sans milk. Just a dribble of milk on Rice krispies š
