Origami Heart Envelope
This origami heart envelope is a fun origami craft, but if this is your first time trying origami, this one may take a little more practice. This origami heart envelope uses double-sided craft/scrapbook/origami paper. If you don’t have a double-sided paper, you can use two thin sheets of paper glued together.
With extra patience, this could be a fun craft to make for your valentine. Looking for other Valentine’s Day ideas? A quick search will bring up several fun crafts and recipes on the site.
Here’s what you need to make this origami heart envelope:
- Double-sided craft paper – A4 size is recommended and this is approximately letter size. If you don’t have that size, you can use a 12×12 and cut it down to letter size (about 8.5 inches by 11 inches.)
- Glue – optional
How to make your origami heart envelope:
Step 1: For this origami project you will need origami craft paper or a double sided paper. You can also join 2 different colored light craft papers together. We’re using an A4 size sheet (21 x 29.7 cm) for this origami heart envelope.
Step 2: Keep the dark colored side on top and place the sheet on a plain surface.
Step 3: Fold the paper in half, lengthwise. This will bring the light side up.
Step 4: Now, fold each half-folded side in half again.
Step 5: Unfold all 3 folds made in the previous steps.
Step 6: Fold any one of the corners inside and align it with the initial half fold crease. Similarly, fold the adjacent corner (along the width).
Step 7: Turn the pattern to the other side.
Step 8: Fold the paper along the inner edge of the triangle part.
Step 9: Unfold the corners.
Step 10: Fold in the closed corners and align them with the nearest creases.
Step 11: Unfold the corners.
Step 12: Keeping the side crease flattened, slightly open the pattern from a side (we started from the left
side).
Step 13: Open the side and form the corner on the bottom and flatten it with the rest of the pattern.
Step 14: Next, open and fold the right side.
Step 15: Unfold the right side
Step 16: Notice the yellow dash line, fold in this part.
Step 17: Align the top right side along the middle crease (marked with purple lines).
Step 18: Flatten the right side after making the two foldings.
Step 19: Similarly, fold the left side.
Step 20: We will use the top part of the current pattern to make the heart pattern. Fold up the flap of the
left side.
Step 21: Fold in the right corner of the flap.
Step 22: Fold in the left corner of the flap.
Step 23: Now, fold in the top corner of the flap by 1 cm.
Step 24: Fold out the flap (which we did in step 20).
Step 25: Similarly, fold the right flap of the top part to complete the heart pattern.
Step 26: Rotate and bring the heart part to the top.
Step 27: Fold the sides along the adjacent creases on both sides.
Step 28: Unfold the sides.
Step 29: Fold the right side again but fold up the top corner.
Step 30: Fold and flatten the sides by keeping the top corners to the front. This will close the top and the side of the origami envelope.
Step 31: Fold the bottom corners of the closed sides.
Step 32: Fold up the bottom edge of the current pattern right below the middle edge of the heart pattern.
Step 33: Fold and tuck in the bottom half of the pattern under the heart pattern to close the envelope.
