Yesterday included my trip to Hollywood. We took a subway into the city, and ended up right in the middle of the Oscars action. Several streets have been closed since I arrived Wednesday and yesterday I was able to take pictures of people setting up for Sunday’s event. I even have pictures of me on the red carpet 🙂 It’s amazing that the Oscars take place in the Kodak Theater, which is essentially a great outdoor mall. Red curtains were starting to cover store fronts and all of the store signs – have to hide as much as you can, to make this look as elegant as possible.
There was an event on the second floor of the “mall” where visitors could see all of the Oscars that are being handed out on Sunday. It was pretty cool – Jen and I did as much of the touristy stuff as possible, and we even held a real Oscar. It was 8 1/2 pounds and not everything I had anticipated it to be…but still pretty cool (I have pictures, too.)
A LOT of walking was involved in our day, from the two hour workout in the morning to the endless walking in Hollywood and eventually walking Melrose. We tried to do some shopping, but at one point I was too tired…So, we went home for an hour to regroup. By 9:00, we were on our way back to Melrose, where we had dinner at Pink’s (www.pinkshollywood.com) and saw a band, Pillow of Wrongness, at a place called The Gig.
Overall, a very eventful day. It’s raining today, but we’re still hoping to get out – probably to Universal City. Tomorrow, if it’s sunny, we’ll head to the beach. I expect I will be going nonstop until I board my plane on Tuesday morning!
