Peaceful

This week’s You Capture challenge focused on the topic of “peace” and I thought that was a pretty broad topic. I was all ready to jump right in. Until I had the most un-peaceful week.

We did manage to head out to the Great Smokies National Park on Sunday and I captured a bear and elk on my camera. That seemed pretty peaceful. I mean, really, how often do you get to see a bear climbing in a tree? And we weren’t about to make any noise, so we wouldn’t startle him (or her.)

I know that in a couple of the pictures, the elk look like they’re fenced in, but don’t let that fool you. The fence had many openings, and they just wandered. There is a group of about 5 elk that the rangers said are good friends right now. In about 3 weeks, mating season will be upon them and the elk will be fighting over the females – typical males.

Finally, some scenics:

Hope you’ve enjoyed this little outing. I definitely found my time out there peaceful. Maybe not the driving on windy roads in hard rain, but it cleared up when we needed it to be clear. It was a nice Sunday afternoon!!

  1. HOLY MOLY!! Love the bear shot. That’s definitely not something the average person gets to see in their lifetime! Looks like a sweet little cub šŸ™‚ The elk are so beautiful. They look so peaceful lying down and resting. Your scenic shots are perfect. So vivid!!

    Great captures!

  2. Thanks, everyone!

We were in Cataloochee, and the barn was built in 1902. I have pictures from a house that was almost that old. I would love to go back and check out the family cemeteries that are in that area!!
