Penguin Mother’s Day Card – tutorial and free template
With just a few days before Mother’s Day, this penguin Mother’s Day card is pretty easy to make with your child(ren) and really cute. Let your kids write a sweet message inside to complete the project!
I’m lucky my kids have a lot of teachers (including after school teachers) who are so into making gifts for the parents. My daughter has been making me cards for the past week – and that isn’t including anything she may bring home from school this weekend. If you’re looking for a cute project for your kids to take on for Mother’s Day, this penguin card is a fun one. (And this does not have to be exclusive to moms! It could be a birthday card, a regular greeting card or anything else you’d like.)

What you need for this penguin Mother’s Day card:
- Colored paper (card stock or construction paper, or scrapbook paper)
- Cardstock paper
- Sharpie
- Craft glue
- Pencil
- Scissors
How to make your penguin Mother’s Day card:
Select the colored papers for the penguin patterns and the label. Trace the body patterns, wing patterns on black or gray paper, the beaks on orange paper and the inner body patterns on white or cream colored paper. Trace the label patterns on the colored paper of your choice. Cut out the traced patterns.
Attach the inner body cutouts on the main body cutouts.
Attach the beak cutouts near the top part of the inner body pattern, between the 2 semi-circular ends.
Attach the big wing cutout on the right side of the mother penguin pattern and attach the small wing cutout on the left side of the child penguin pattern. Use a sharpie to draw the eyes of the penguin patterns.
Make the base of your card from cardstock. Make sure that the card is big enough to add the 2 penguins as well as the label.
Attach the mother penguin near the middle part of the card.
Attach the smaller (child) penguin adjacent to the mother penguin, on the left side. The mother penguin’s wing should slightly overlap the child penguin pattern.
Write your message on the label and attach it along the bottom side of the penguins, on the card.
Fun messages for a penguin Mother’s Day card:
- For this card, I think some phrases include:

- Happy Mother’s Day to the Coolest Mom
- You’re the Coolest Mom Around
- For the Coolest Mom, From Your Little Peep(s)
