Make your own super simple peppermint sugar scrub
I posted a bath salt scrub recently, but sugar scrubs are also pretty fabulous (and so popular right now.) This is super simple to pull together, not very expensive (you can get the small jars at a craft store or at Target or Walmart) and would make a great gift. And while you’re working on gifts, go ahead and make some of this Peppermint Sugar Scrub for yourself. You’ll thank me later.
Sugar scrubs can be gentler on your skin, which is important for me in winter because ohmyword the cold weather is wreaking havoc on my skin and drying me out! If you have coconut oil, sugar and peppermint essential oil, you have all of the ingredients you need to make this sugar scrub. And the gift recipient possibilities are endless! (Think teachers, daycare providers, colleagues, your boss, family members, close neighbors, host/hostesses of holiday parties!)
My husband taught for years before moving into his current role. He used to receive a lot of gifts during the holidays, and some of them were so thoughtful. I’m trying to pay it forward to our son’s teachers (as well as our daughter’s daycare teachers.) Pair this with a gift card and I think I might win them over!
Peppermint Sugar Scrub – Makes 4 small jars
Ingredients:
1 cup coconut oil
2 cups sugar
15-20 drops of peppermint essential oil
Directions:
In a medium bowl, combine all of the ingredients. Store in an air tight container and dress with some twine or a bow for an easy DIY gift.
I love these half pint jars for gift giving. I’m also a fan of decorating the lids with washi tape. You can make a quick gift tag and be set!
See how simple this “recipe” is? Now, go forth and make some sugar scrub and feel a little indulgent.
Do you like making holiday gifts? Do you do teacher gifts?

I am soon into making my own skincare, so I will definitely try this soon…I may have to use different EOs, though, as I think I just ran out of peppermint and won’t be stocking up again for a while.
What a great idea for a gift. Sugar scrubs are the best and that peppermint this time of year is perfect. I think I need to purchase some more coconut oil soon!
I’ve always wanted to make my own scrub! This looks awesome. I have to pick up some oils now!
This is a perfect holiday gift! Would be great to make for my girlfriends!
I can’t believe how simple this is! Sugar scrubs are not cheap so we’ll definitely try this over the holidays.
This sounds easy enough! I love the scent of peppermint too. This should be perfect for some stocking stuffers.
Being new to this kind of cold weather my skin really dried so much that sometimes i get cracks on my hands and feet. I guess I will be needing this homecare skin care this coming winter!
I never realized they could be so easy to make! With two girls in the house, I would save so much by making our own!
This looks amazing and I’m sure it smells amazing too! What a great idea to give as gifts!
Okay, now I’m distracted by the fact that I have all of these ingredients and I feel the need to go make some of this right now, HA! It looks delightful!
I am all about peppermint anything! This DIY scrub sounds like a perfect homemade gift for the upcoming holidays!
Has anyone actually tried grinding up all of those leftover candy canes and mixing them with the coconut oil?
While I have never tried that, I’d probably never have the chance. I tend to eat candy canes as soon as they’re opened. š
Can you use peppermint oil on your face? Just wondering if this sugar scrub is safe for your face. Love the Holiday ideas. Thanks!
Hi Loriann! This is fine because the oil is mixed with the coconut oil so it’s broken down a little more. I have some roller bottles with peppermint oil and coconut oil and I use them on my face (forehead especially) with no issue. Just make sure you’re also using a good quality essential oil.
