This was NOT what I set out to complete first this year, but I’m super pleased with how it came out. A week ago, I was going through a closet and came across my fabric stash. I forgot I had this Appalachian State fleece, and I bought it about three four years ago – with no clue as to what it would become. I did a quick internet search about fleece, and I decided to double it up and make a blanket. (I really thought I would have to sew it, and this project did not involve my sewing machine at all.)

I had 3 yards of fabric. That is SO MUCH. First, I trimmed off the edges and tossed them. (I’ve seen other crafters save those pieces – I am not one of those people.) I found the center point length-wise, and cut the fabric in half. I placed the two pieces together – wrong side to wrong side so the “right” sides were both on the outside. I also made sure that the logos were going the same way, because I’m a little crazy like that.

nosewblanket_1 I laid the fleece down and used my rotary cutter to cut a 4×4-inch square out of each corner. And in each corner (just outside of the cut portions), I safety-pinned the two pieces together so they wouldn’t slide. Also, I’ve seen other people do something with their 4×4 squares. I tossed mine. No shame.

From there, I used my straight-edge and rotary cutter and cut 4-inch strips about one-inch wide down each side. I did this over the course of two days. When I would have a few minutes, I’d lay the thing down on the floor and cut.

On Tuesday night, while we watched a movie, I tied each of the sets of strips in a double knot. Again, I’ve seen that these can be fancy. I wanted to have a completed blanket in one night, and I did quick and dirty double knots.

The ginormous “throw” blanket is about 1.5 yards long. It doesn’t sound huge, but it’s pretty largeThe fleece was fairly wide, so it’s at least a yard wide.

nosewblanket_2 The blanket is SO warm. And from what I’ve read, fleece won’t fray. I found this fabric on fabric.com forever ago and I know I used a discount code. I’m so glad I was able to make something I know my husband will use and it didn’t take too much out of me to complete it – why didn’t I complete this years ago??

nosewblanket_4 See? Happy husband. Warm husband.

Do you drag your feet on projects? Any extra projects you’re currently stuck on or have sitting in a closet just waiting for the right year to come along so you can finish them?

  2. It came out great and your husband does look tickled yellow and black to have it. šŸ™‚ I love to snuggle up with a nice warm blanket like that this time of year!

  3. I love the blanket, especially the strips along the sides. My scrapbooking projects are sitting in the closet collecting dust. I need to get back to working on them!

  4. I totally drag my feet on projects!! I still have a half finished afghan that I was crocheting for my sister’s college graduation. My sister is now 40 years old!

  5. This sounds like a great project. Unfortunately I am a project procrastinator. I start one, get half way through it and wait a month or two before finishing. Cute blanket.

  6. Fun blanket and just in time for football season. A funny thing is, I personally prefer to sew my ‘no sew’ blankets because I don’t like the ties. lol
