My grandma’s 90th birthday party was this past weekend, and my aunt had mentioned documenting the day so my grandma would have something to look back on. I immediately stepped up because I had the perfect idea. A scrapbook / party guest book done with Project Life kits.
If you aren’t familiar with Project Life, I highly recommend checking out Becky Higgins’ site now. (And don’t worry, we’ll wait for you to come back. Her site is worth it.)
What you need for a scrapbook guest book
I have this Canon Selphy printer (<–affiliate link), which was compact enough for my carry-on bag, and simple to use at the park (we were under a pavilion that had electricity.) All photos were shot with my Nikon.
I purchased a red mini album on Amazon which was MORE than enough pages for our guests! We had blank pages and they can be filled in if I want to send my grandma more photos. (This album is similar to what we used.)
I grabbed some of my Project Life cards and placed them throughout the album before the party. I asked all guests to sign a card and then I got as many photos as possible of guests with the birthday girl.
How to Make Your Guest Book:
- Take the photos.
- Print on your portable printer.
- Have your guests fill out a card with a note to the guest of honor.
When I didn’t have a photo, I slid in another Project Life card. Towards the end, I was able to add more photos of the kids (because they weren’t into posing, but they sure were having fun!)
I didn’t have to do much journaling because others had written the notes!
By the end of the party, I gave my grandma the book and she couldn’t believe it. So many family members and friends of hers came, and this is such a great memento for her to look back on the day (and super, super easy! You don’t have to be a scrapbooker to do this!)
I love this idea for birthday parties, weddings, engagement parties or any type of gathering that you deem photo-worthy. We had an autograph frame at our wedding rehearsal, and I wish we had a book like this back then.

That is a great idea and so simple! It makes the “documenting” of an important event so easy and quick which is a problem with scrapbooking sometime. It consumes me and then it does not get done! Thanks for some great ideas!

I love this idea. I was suppose to do one for my daughter but never got around to doing it but this is so neat. I love looking back at old pictures and the memories having a scrapbook is a great present to surprise someone too.
