a (quick) nursery tour
I’ve been trying to get this post done, and I thought I had all of my pictures on my computer…and then realized I had lied to myself. So. Sorry this is a bit late. Blame it on the baby who happens to be a bit late himself.
Let’s start from the beginning. The nursery used to be our office. The day that I decided to pull everything from the office, the room looked a little like this:
And I hung up paint swatches to get an idea of what we really wanted to use in there:
We eventually settled on a blue, and around the time we painted, we bought the dresser from a local store about a mile from our house:
Kenny then spent an evening putting together the crib that his parents gave us the money for (I bought the crib on Amazon.):
The bedding came from Target. And soon after that, we realized that we were leaning towards a jungle theme. My mom purchased a few items for the room (and we’re still waiting for the rug.)
The closet was torn apart by my mom, and she and Kenny painted and installed the shelving unit. Part of it was an “organizational system” purchased at Lowes, the other part was built by my mom.
The doors will eventually be replaced because they currently slide side-to-side and are annoying.
What you can’t see in the closet is a wooden chest that I saved from a yard sale. It belonged to my mom and dad and it holds toys for now.
The decals were purchased on Amazon (and hung by me a couple of weeks ago):
The rocking chair was my mom’s (and purchased around the time I was born), and the cover on the chair was made by her – I’m not even sad that it doesn’t match anything. It’s super comfortable. The ottoman was made by me when I realized that I had 8 yards of fabric that I needed to do something with. I also had a ton of pillow stuffing that needed to be used up.
McLittle already has a well-stocked library (over 100 books!):
And artwork painted by our good friend Mai:
I painted a nightlight at my ceramics class:
And the curtains were re-hung once I finally bought brackets for the curtain rod and was able to get my mom to repair the 3 holes I put in the wall. (I plan on making curtains for that window, but I couldn’t decide on fabric so I went with the previous curtains for now.)
I still want to add a shelf in the corner where the rocking chair is, and we have a white picture frame that needs to be hung.
And with that, we have a nursery the size of most closets. I think we’ve maximized the space as best we can, though, and I do like sitting in there (so I’m hoping that’s a good sign that McLittle will enjoy it.)
Now the baby needs to arrive.
I love the monkey lamp! it looks great, you did a great job, it doesn’t look cramped at all!
Come on McLittle….you are the final piece!!!
Nice job, Jaime….OK, lets get this show on the road!!
Super cute! A friend of mine gave me a tip about putting a disposable changing pad over the fabric one… it’s saved us from having to wash the diaper changing pad cover every day! (Now we just wash it every other day, lol)
I think you did a fantastic job! I love the jungle theme, especially the monkeys on the lamp and switch plate!
It looks great!! So cute! Will be the perfect room
