Thanks to Cuero, TX Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram for collaborating on this post. As always, opinions are my own!
Several months ago, my friends and I met up in Austin for a conference. We met a day early so we could explore – and I want to go back for a week! A lot of people compare my city to Austin, and I have to say I kind of agree with said people. (Also, people were incredibly nice there!)
If you’re in Texas, Cuero is less than a two hour drive from Austin. Definitely close enough for a day trip! And this is what you should check out:
Queso. Preferably at Torchy’s. You cannot go wrong with the queso or any of Torchy’s tacos. I got two tacos, and in addition to the queso it was a LOT of food for not a lot of money. I’ve been dreaming of the queso since April and I would give good money to know the recipe – or to have my own Torchy’s Tacos in NC.
The bats! Apparently the city is known for its bat population, and the Austin Bat Bridge is quite the attraction for tourists (and some locals.) We saw a few, not a ton, come flying out and it was still a fun experience. (We were there in April. From what I’ve read, summer is peak time for the bats.)
The Texas State Capitol is beautiful and is a great tour to go on! I did a photo walk around the grounds and through the building and was amazed by the history and the architecture.
I’m going to go back to the food. We ate at a food truck lot one night and it was the most fun experience. I love a good food truck, but it’s a definitely different in Austin – and I wouldn’t change that for anything.
