Summertime is fun time in our house. It’s the end of school, my husband’s birthday, birthdays of several fabulous friends, then back to school and our son’s birthday. We love celebrating. We’re traveling a lot over the next few weeks and couldn’t get a proper birthday party set up, so I decided to throw a Red, White & Funshine party to celebrate everything. This also happened to fall on National Ice Cream Day – who doesn’t love to celebrate ice cream? (Want to share a little funshine and throw your own party? I found all of my items at Walmart late last week. It was so easy to stop by and grab everything in one trip on my way home from the office. I ended up buying M&M’s® Plain, M&M’s® Peanut, M&M’s® Peanut Butter, Skittles®, Starburst® minis unwrapped, SNICKERS® Ice Cream Bars and M&M’s® Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches, Dr Pepper® Cherry and Pedigree Dentastix® Original for “doggie bags” (treats to go home with my dog-loving friends.)
Because most of my friends enjoy cupcakes, I thought I’d make a Cherry Chocolate cupcake.
These are the easiest cupcakes you’ll ever make. All they require is a can of soda (or 12 ounces of soda) and a chocolate cake mix. The Dr Pepper® Cherry was perfect for this cupcake. I mixed the soda and the cake mix together, scooped into the cupcake liners and baked according to the cake mix package. (Around 15 minutes.)
Cherry Chocolate Cupcakes
Ingredients
- 1 can (12 ounces) Dr Pepper® Cherry
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
Instructions
Mix the Dr Pepper® Cherry and the cake mix together.
Divide into cupcake liners about 2/3 full
Bake according to cake mix instructions (around 15 minutes.)
I created a cupcake topper and liner to celebrate “everything.” You can download the cupcake topper here and the blue wrappers and red/yellow cupcake wrappers in the mentioned links.
To make the toppers, I purchased some lollipop sticks, cut the toppers (I used a 2-inch scrapbook punch, which was the perfect size) and taped the sticks to the back of the card stock circles with a piece of washi tape. Washi tape is so fun and I used it on so many things and it took very little time. Note that I added it to my jars and utensils. Everything received so many compliments!
I created a candy/toppings bar full of my favorite candies, fruit and other toppings. I added a bin for drinks and the Dr Pepper® Cherry was so fun for ice cream floats – and such a hit! (I realized later my friend Ryan posted a picture of his float and I’m excited he enjoyed it!)
It was fun seeing everyone’s ice cream and float creations.

The afternoon of the party brought us 90-degree temperatures, so we had water games in the back yard. I’m glad the adults were able to enjoy the water toys and sprinklers.
I knew I would have leftover candy and treats, so I made a bin for treat bags that everyone could fill for later. I also had doggie bags – treat bags with Pedigree Dentastix® Original – for the dog owners to take home to their pups.

What are you celebrating this summer?
What a great time! I love the decorations and all the goodies!
This looks SO good! I need to come to a party at your house!!
What a deliciously fun filled time! I have to try these cupcakes.
This looks like SO much fun! You inspire me with your craftiness. You guys do have a lot to celebrate over the summer months. Enjoy your travels in the coming weeks!
I love the toppings bar. I think this would definitely make my loved ones happy at the next family gathering.
I think these are festive colors and perfect for having a party with them. They always inspire feelings of patriotism in me.
Walmart has everything that you’ll ever need for a party. I don’t usually go anywhere else. When I lived in NY there was none near by and I don’t know how I survived without them. Now I have about 3 within driving distance. 🙂
I have two relatively close to my house and I can’t imagine not having easy access!
That looks like a fun party. I need to try the cupcakes. They look so good.
I love that t that you threw an Everything Party!! Everything looked so festive and bright. I am definitely going to try making cupcakes with soda-it sounds so very easy–and as for those ice cream floats–now I want one!!
Can I come to your party! Some fantastic looking treats and I love the decorations!
How fun! This is for sure my kind of party. Great way to celebrate the heat and summer, and looks like there was lots to enjoy!
Wow, now that was quite the party with a whole lot of goodies. With summer, you just have to go with the flow and the weather. We have been celebrating summer by just enjoying our lazy weekends. Today is an exceptionally beautiful day.
WoW! What a great funshine party. I’m a big one for summer desserts and treats so I was salivating over all the goodies. I must check out that daily giveaway. $100 is great! 🙂
So everything looks amazing of course but I have to say my FAVORITE is the Treat YoSelf labels. Awesome. 🙂
Those were one of my favorite parts too. 😉
I just love your happy everything theme! And your wooden spoons are to die for!
thanks! They were so simple (and I do think we should all have a “happy everything” party at least once a year!)
So simple to put together but the presentation was superb! I like the way you designed the cupcake toppers. It is a great reminder for us to stay happy and be thankful for everything!
Beautiful and awesome ideas. The party seemed very fun and very well put together
Now these are awesome – love the idea and very useful for future events.
I love the idea to celebrate everything and it looks like everyone had a great time! We’ve had birthdays and soon we will be celebrating back to school 🙂 (client)
