This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/Rubbermaid®. All opinions are my own.
As a mom to two and wife to one – and working outside of the home full-time – meal planning is a necessity in our house. My husband and I alternate weekend grocery trips, and we brainstorm a week of meals before one of us heads to the store. Some things are easy to stock up on – meat? Simply freeze it. Dry foods? That’s why we have extra storage space downstairs. Produce? Um….not so much.
We love eating fresh fruits and vegetables. But we haven’t always been able to rely on certain foods to stay fresh long enough for us to eat it by the end of the week (much less two weeks.)
About a year ago I came across a Rubbermaid® FreshWorks™ container – a small one – and I used it for strawberries during the summer. I loved how long my fruit could remain in the container before turning on me. Well, Rubbermaid has released a few new sizes of their FreshWorks containers and I was eager to put them to the test.
I now have the large square (ideal for tomatoes), long rectangle (great for asparagus) and the small green beans (good for green beans.) I actually used my containers for grapes, asparagus and broccoli. And let me tell you – I’m actually buying more containers.
My grapes are still going strong after 10 days. My asparagus was eaten after 9 days in the container and the broccoli, while it didn’t hold up for 10 days, it did look a lot better than what I left in the bag. (The broccoli stayed fresh for about a week.) You simply have to take the produce out of its original packaging and place it in the Rubbermaid FreshWorks Produce Saver. Don’t wash or prep your vegetables or fruit. Your food will stay fresh for up to 80% longer* than when its in the original packaging. (*Based on strawberries in FreshWorks™ containers vs. store packaging. Results may vary depending upon produce and use.)
The Rubbermaid FreshWorks Produce Saver is officially saving me money by not having to throw things away before my next grocery store trip!
So how else am I saving money?
5 Tips to Save Money at the Grocery Store:
- Plan your meals – and stick to your list.
- Shop your pantry and freezer. You may have what you need – there’s no sense in buying it multiple times!
- Shop around. I know how much meat generally runs at several local stores and I stock up when items are on sale.
- Don’t shop when hungry. (This is when the extra junk food ends up in your cart.)
- Buy produce….and store it in the Rubbermaid FreshWorks Containers! You won’t be purchasing produce as frequently since it’ll be lasting longer. (And just think of the food you won’t be wasting!)
