Huge thanks to McDonald’s for sponsoring this post. As always, opinions are my own.

I feel like I blinked and February is almost over. Spring will be here before we know it and Shamrock Shakes have returned to McDonald’s! Not only have they returned, but this time they’ve brought along a twist…the Chocolate Shamrock Shake and for 2000 people, a fun STRAW (which one lucky reader can win in my giveaway below).

As soon as I learned there was a new Chocolate Shamrock Shake, I wanted to try it. From what I have read, this shake was supposed to be a layer of chocolate shake under a layer of the mint-flavored Shamrock Shake. Mine was the opposite order, and it still did not disappoint. I took the family for desserts this week, and my son was intrigued by the shakes (I ordered one of each, of course.) We both preferred the Chocolate Shamrock Shake, but in his words, he “loves both of them.”

And my child knows his desserts.

I love chocolate and chocolate shakes are one of my favorite treats, but when you add a hint of mint to chocolate? I can’t say no, and this shake was fantastic! Of course it was topped with whipped cream and then pretty green sprinkles and a cherry (which really threw my kid off. He doesn’t understand the value of a cherry on top.)

So to ensure a good ratio of chocolate to mint, McDonald’s turned to two engineering firms to create the perfect straw to consume the Chocolate Shamrock Shake. JACE & NK Labs created the probably-more-revolutionary-than-actually-needed Suction Tube for Reverse Axial Withdrawal (the STRAW). The STRAW’s-shape provides optimal flavor flow dynamics.

I’m not even joking about this. I took my STRAW along and the Chocolate Shamrock Shake was the perfect blend of chocolate and mint.

Only 2000 STRAWs were produced. I received one to review, and I also have one to give away (along with a $25 McDonald’s gift card.) You just have to enter through the Rafflecopter below.

As part of Shamrock season, McDonald’s will donate $.25 from each of the five McCafé Shamrock beverages purchased to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) during the week of March 11-17. In addition to the Shamrock Shake and Chocolate Shamrock Shake, McDonald’s also has the Shamrock Chocolate Chip Frappé, Shamrock Mocha and the Shamrock Hot Chocolate. (Trust me when I say if our weather would just COOL OFF, I would be purchasing the Shamrock Hot Chocolate for myself and my boy.) The iconic Shamrock Shake has been a key part of fundraising for RMHC since 1974 when the first Ronald McDonald House was opened.

Tell me….have you tried the Shamrock Shake? Will you be trying the Chocolate Shamrock Shake this year?
