showing off Asheville
In case you haven’t figured it out, I kind of think that the city where I live is pretty spectacular. And in recent months, I’ve come to appreciate this more and more.
Take the weekend at the Type-A Mom conference. I loved playing the role of tour guide, sending people off to fabulous restaurants, answering their questions about things to do and just eavesdropping about how fabulous others think Asheville is.
And starting this weekend, I get to show off one of my favorite cities to my family – for at least five days (or so.) I don’t even know where to start! Well, I guess we’ll start by picking up my grandma and aunt at the airport. And then the fun will really begin.
We might hit the Blue Ridge Parkway (lower elevations) to see if we can find some still-changing foliage. I’m sure we’ll end up downtown sometime, but not this weekend. Moogfest is taking place, and it’s going to be all types of crazy down there. I will be sending my family towards Charlotte to visit the Billy Graham Library on Monday (since I have to work, and I’ve visited the library a few times.)
Tuesday, though, might find us in Mars Hill, or further up the Parkway, or downtown maybe. And if we go downtown, I kind of want to take them to either the cupcake shop, or the French Broad Chocolate Lounge or one of the many restaurants (there are so many options!)
I’m pretty sure we’re going to the Biltmore Estate on Wednesday. The Christmas tree is being brought in that day by horse-drawn carriage, and it’s quite the sight. Maybe for lunch, we’ll go to Loretta’s? Loretta’s is only open at lunchtime Monday through Friday, and I don’t think many tourists get to see that kind of coolness. (Plus, BLTs are always the special on Wednesday, and they never have BLTs on the other days.)
And after that, it’s all up in the air, but I’m sure there will not be a shortage of things to do.
Stay tuned….I’ll be blogging all about it!
