It’s the most magical time of the year – treats-wise, at least. And this year I am sharing a recipe for Snowball Cookies that my mom and grandma make every year. This year, I’m adding them into the mix of my holiday baking.

Also back this year, my participation in the Houseful of Cookies roundup! Be sure to check out alllll of the treats at the bottom of my post.

Snowball Cookies Recipe

Snowball cookies taste a lot like sugar cookies, without the trouble of using cookie cutters or icing them. They’re fairly simple to make and I’m a secret lover of all things confectioners sugar, which these cookies use (and have sprinkled on them!)

Snowball Cookies are a family favorite - and SO simple to make! Try them this holiday season with the kids.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

How to make snowball cookies:

Cream the butter in a mixing bowl. Add sugar, vanilla and flour. Mix well. Add the nuts, mix and then chill. (I chilled overnight, and this may have been a little too long as the dough was solid the next morning. Chill for an hour or two and you should be good.) Roll the dough into balls, about 1.5 inches around. Bake for 10-12 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet at 400 degrees. Dust with powdered sugar.

Rather than an ungreased cookie sheet, I use these silicon baking sheets, which I’ve used for several years and love.
