Friends, it’s been a while since I’ve done a stream of consciousness post. It’s also been a while since my family has been home on the weekend – all together – and not been sick. I’m not even kidding. Somehow I managed to be out of town with sick kids (and my husband was home because he had to work) or at home with a sick kid, while my husband was out of town for a few days. What are the odds? (Apparently the odds were pretty great and they were NOT working in my favor!)
(Despite a terrible cold that turned into an ear infection, this boy is feeling MUCH better, and is very proud of himself that he can drink hot chocolate out of a mug, with one hand.)
We’ve been up to so much the past few months, and I feel like I haven’t shared half of our adventures. In July the kids and I flew to DC to join my husband who was there for a conference. The kids and I traipsed around DC while he conference-d and then we drove to upstate NY for a whirlwind trip. It was SUCH a short trip, and my son was devastated we didn’t get to stay longer. We made the most of our trip, though. We even met April the giraffe! I seriously need to share our photos because that was such a fun adventure, even if we were dressed for warm weather and New York didn’t know it was late July.
My son turned 6. SIX! I can’t believe it. We threw him a Lego Batman party, and this was the first time I didn’t bake the cake or hold the party at our house. It was fabulous and worth every penny spent. Again, there are photos to be shared.
And I don’t think I ever shared my daughter’s first birthday party and there were several cute things we did for her! Second child syndrome, for sure.
Can I just take a moment and tell you how cute my daughter’s tantrums are? She’s pretty dramatic. She will cover her mouth with her hand when she’s upset and she covers her eyes or entire face when she’s distraught. She usually throws a fit if you don’t feed her fast enough. I finally caught her in the moment so I could share her with the rest of the world.
Can I also mention that she still isn’t walking? She has taken a couple of steps, but she just hasn’t gotten the nerve to take off and walk. I’m on the fence if I want her to do this soon or not
You see, at almost 17-months-old, my girl is starting daycare on Monday. She’s been in what I think of as “gamma-care” for the past year (my mom has been caring for her.) So while I haven’t had her every day at home, she’s been in the home of a family member and that eased my mind a lot. A daycare we have been wanting to get our kid(s) into for 6 years finally opened a new classroom and she made the cut! For real, our son was on the waiting list for almost 2 years before we finally gave up on getting in. I didn’t want to chance not getting in next spring when she turns 2, so we’re starting Monday.
This will be good for her, but man. I wish she could stay with me for the next 4 years.
I hope you’re having a great weekend (we have multiple birthday parties to attend and stuff to do around the house.) And if you’re in the path of Hurricane Irma, I hope you are safe. We should get rain from the storm, but the forecast looks like it’s heading further west. We’ll see once it makes landfall, I guess.
What are your weekend plans?
