I missed last week’s SOC post. I feel like our summer is flying by and it’s barely begun.

We spent last night at a baseball game in town, which my son absolutely loved – even if he didn’t pay too much attention to the game. We didn’t get home until after 10:00 and he was awake by 6:30 this morning.

Stream of Consciousness - free writing.

We followed that up with a nap and then a couple of hours at a friend’s pool, so bedtime was a little easier than most nights. (Imagine that!)

My boy is in regular swim lessons (not the parent-child class that I was afraid he would have to do again) and is really learning. I can’t wait until we’re free from flotation devices in small pools. I’m all about pool safety, but I’m also ready for him to be comfortable in the water – minus the Puddle Jumper (which is awesome, but I don’t want to rely on it forever.)

And why, oh why, can’t I have summers off? I head back to work in two weeks and I’m beyond sad. I ended up extending my maternity leave to the full 12 weeks instead of just under 11. Mentally, I’m still not prepared. Also I have to buy new clothes, and I’m not prepared for that.

I really wish I was independently wealthy. That would solve a few problems. Not all of my problems, but a few of them.

I do love summertime, but I’m a little over the extreme heat. The 90+ degree days are not welcome. Give me low 80s – or even 70s! – and I’m a happy girl. We’re making the most of it, though.
