Weekend getaways and party game suggestions? {week 106} #SOC #blogging #freewriting

I’ve missed several weeks of Stream of Consciousness writing. I didn’t realize how many until I just looked back.

Stream of Consciousness - free writing.

Life’s been hectic. I felt like I was going in a million directions last week. It’s been a while since I had felt like that, so on Friday morning I decided to take a half vacation day and get ready for our weekend.

We went to Tennessee for the weekend. It wasn’t a long trip, but it was good to see just how the baby travels (she is pretty good!) and to do something as our family of 4, for a few days. Our son had a blast, and only one major meltdown. So many things led to that meltdown and you’d think as parents we would know better.

Also, traveling with young children is hard! We stayed in a condo, and the resort had all types of activities (pools! water slides!) to keep our son entertained. It was easy to divide and conquer playtime with naptime. But nighttime sleep the first night was difficult – because of our son. Go figure.

Despite all that, I’m already planning our next weekend getaway. I feel like we could use a getaway about every 2-3 months.

We didn’t leave town this summer. Part of that was related to having a newborn. Part was related to being around for my mom, since she needed a good deal of help early in the summer.

My boy turns 5 in just a couple of weeks and I still can’t believe it. He’s having a Star Wars party, and I’m trying to brainstorm fun and simple party games for 4- and 5-year-olds. Any suggestions?
