Stream of Consciousness: ‘That was fun’ – week 53 #SOC #blogging #freewriting
I mentioned yesterday that I was not having a good parenting week. My boy and I have been at odds a lot lately, and I felt we needed a fun few hours just the two of us. Today that happened. (Hence why this isn’t going up until almost Sunday.)
This morning I picked him up from my mom’s and we set off downtown to see if the sprinklers were on (aka, if Splasheville was open.) It was and we were both relieved. We spent a good hour at Splasheville, with a few other families enjoying the cool water in the hot, humid morning hours.
As we were heading back to the car, Lucas whispered to me, “that was fun.”
And I kind of melted.
I let him choose between going to a Chick-fil-a standalone store, or to one at the mall. He chose the one at the mall, and we visited Build A Bear first. He built one of the Avenger bears (Hulk) and was thrilled. He played in the play area, we ate lunch and as we were walking back to the car, he again said, “that was fun.”
Tonight we went to an Asheville Tourists baseball game. It was incredibly hot, and he was expecting to play baseball himself. He didn’t understand why the “baseball mans” wouldn’t let him down on their field. He eventually got into the spirit of baseball.
I was carrying him out of the stadium and one more time he told me, “that was fun.”
Mission accomplished. We had such a fun summer day and it was so good to push everything else aside today. The house chores and work can wait as long as we’re creating fun memories.
Linking up with All Things Fadra this week!
Yay! This post makes me so happy. Sometimes all our kiddos want is some special, one-on-one time with us. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in our own agenda. I’m glad you and the boy had an awesome day, just the two of you. I need to take my boys to a baseball game. That sounds really fun!
There are a few more home games on Saturdays. We should try to meet up at one! (The Saturday games start at 6:05. SO much easier on us since we’re dealing with an 8:00 bedtime!)
Sometimes it is just important to spend time with the little ones and let the house stuff slide for a little bit. It sounds as if you made memories and that is a very good thing.
Yes! THIS exactly. I have no regrets about this weekend.
SO SWEET!!! my heart melted just reading this!
I have this thing called “Field Trip Fridays” where I’ve tried to make time at least once per week for that special one on one time even when I have so much other stuff to do at home. And not only does it create lasting memories for my son, but it creates them for me as well. And as a result, I have “so much fun” too 🙂
Thanks for linking up!
