Stream of Consciousness: Sleepless in NY {week 56} #SOC #freewriting #blogging
My son wins the award for worst sleeper ever….if there is such an award.
We’re winding up our trip in New York and there hasn’t been a single solid night sleep since….a long time. Tuesday was a wash (I mean, 5.5 hours of sleep isn’t real sleep.) And he woke the two nights prior to that wanting me to rub his back. This whole trip has had us awake at 1:30 and 2:30 a.m., my husband and I taking turns on who is going to sleep with the boy – and the boy wakes by 6, no matter what time he goes to bed.
I’m almost ready to be home. Just so we can sleep in our own beds and hopefully get at least 8 hours of sleep.
I feel like we’re discussing his newborn days (or the first 15 months of his life.)
All my adult life I’ve wished for someone to tell me “just go to sleep.” Why do kids hate sleep so much?
We’ve been on the go since we landed Wednesday. I purposely arranged blocks of time with family members so we could have more one-on-one time, and I think it’s working, but here it is almost Sunday morning and I’m worn out. We have one more BIG family event tomorrow, and then head home first thing Monday morning. This trip has been a whirlwind, but good. People have seen Lucas in his element of playing in the pool or with other kids, but they’ve also seen the tantrum side (and oh there have been some tantrums. See that lack of sleep thing above.)
I’m tired. I never thought I’d be complaining about this almost four years after my son was born. (Also, his birthday is later this month. What the what???)
Please tell me your tips for getting kids to sleep on vacations. I’m open for anything (within reason).
My kids are okay with sleep when on vacation as long as they are all piled in our bed. They won’t sleep alone when on vacation I guess because it’s new to them. My 9 year old as big as he is will climb right in bed with us he is the main one smh
My daughter does pretty well on vacation. We try to stick to our normal routine and timeline (ie: 7:30 bath, 8pm bed).
haave you had him to a chiro? I had a couple of childcare boys that it worked miracles on their sleep cycles with a few adjustments
My kids typically sleep good while on vacation, but my son is not much of a sleeper as it is. One thing I have learned with him is to put him to bed and leave him to himself, Once he falls asleep he is out for the night.
