Stream of Consciousness: Caked out {week 60} #SOC #freewriting #blogging
We had my son’s birthday party this morning. Let me tell you….early morning parties are the way to go. It felt simpler, the kids had fun running around the yard, cake before lunch and decent naptimes were almost guaranteed.
My son’s friend is turning 3 tomorrow, so we went to her birthday party this afternoon. I think I am caked out.
And he is played out. As am I.
During naptime, I cleaned up and did a little shopping for our friend’s birthday gift. I should have napped.
I’m quickly learning that simpler parties are better. We did have a theme (Thomas the Train, because….almost-4-year-old boy. Of course.) but activities were simple. They played a few minutes and then I said, “who wants cake?” and what child turns down cake at 11 a.m.??
My boy hates the “happy birthday” song. He has ruined many birthday parties and we’ve talked about it all week. He did surprisingly well while his friends and family sang it today. I was shocked – and proud.
So if this is what 4 is going to be, bring it. And bring on the cake. I think I’ll be ready for more tomorrow.
I love the morning party idea. The kiddos are definitely calmer that time of day. It was so great to see you guys! Now on to planning our double date.
