I love, love, love Charleston, South Carolina. I’ve visited the city several times and have vacationed in Isle of Palms (just outside of Charleston) many summers. It’s one of my favorite cities and I never get tired of wandering around there. When we were traveling last Wednesday, we decided to stop in Charleston for a few hours and have lunch before driving the rest of the way to my in-laws.

I set my GPS to find the Visitors Center. From there, I knew we could find a parking garage and walk wherever. (And I was right!) We parked, walked into the Visitors Center to see if we could find a map. We had no agenda. Just walk until we found something. It probably wasn’t the best idea I had all week, but we made the most of it.

First stop was the waterfront near the aquarium. (The aquarium was too expensive for a short visit.) We happened upon a large ship. We watched it go by and then decided to see what else we could happen upon.

I love the streets of Charleston. (I really love Rainbow Row, but we didn’t make it that far this trip. Not by foot, at least.) We found ourselves at the Charleston City Market. I love the sweet grass baskets. I actually have a couple in my house. (Small ones.) On this trip, I bought two prints which I’m excited about framing and hanging in our guest room.

My son loved seeing the carriage horses, but he did not want to get too close!

We ate lunch at Charleston Crab House, across the street from the Charleston City Market. We were able to get a booth on the second floor that had access to a window – perfect for my toddler to watch everything below!

And then we walked back to the car. We walked a couple miles that day, and it was in the low 90s. So hot and sticky! And such a great side trip!

  1. Yes to all of this. We love Charleston! Hubs and I ate at the same restaurant George Washington ate at, saw Rainbow Row, the black market (and it was flooded at the time!) and the Pecan candy companies. I’m so glad you got to see it!

  2. Wow now I’m adding Charleston to our travel to dos! What a beautiful area. Loved all the photos and I love all of those sweet grass baskets. Thanks for the travel review.

  3. I went there on a road trip with my sister and my mom several years ago. I have SUCH fond memories of that trip! What a charming place it is.

  4. I have not visited before, but wow. I want to now. Looks so beautiful, I always love seeing new places that are within driving distance for me, but sadly this is not within driving distance for me for a day trip.

  5. We just got back from Charleston. This is my all time favorite city in the USA. My brother lives down there now and I have been nagging my husband for a year to move down too, I finally have a yes well a “maybe next year” same thing right?

  6. What a beautiful place to visit! I’ve been to North Carolina, but not South Caroline yet. It’s on my travel list though!
