spring/summer garden
We’re a little late on the garden scene this year. With the weather being crazy (80 degrees one day, 50 degrees the next) and then in between travels, we just haven’t gotten around to it. Oh, and I can’t do it all by myself this year. Apparently, I have to have help lifting the bags of mulch and soil.
With the help of my loving husband (who had no idea what he was in for this afternoon), most of our garden is planted. We’re going to have (soon) a ton of lettuce, thanks to my lack of paying attention when planting the ENTIRE SEED PACKET. Tomatoes, basil, cucumbers and even a watermelon plant are in the ground. More seeds will be planted tomorrow and then I can just wait and see what grows this year.
We went with new-to-us boxes this year, since the ones I crafted more than two years ago are not holding up as well as we would have liked. My mom has been replacing her boxes with new plastic ones, and we’ve managed to score her old wooden ones. This year I may try to liven things up with some flowers along the fence next to the garden. Give people something pretty to look at.
Oh, and my strawberries seem to be loving the strawberry pot, though I haven’t seen any berries yet. Lots of flowers, so maybe soon I’ll see the strawberries?? (I hope so. Until then, the local farmers market will suffice.)
I can’t wait to eat the food from our garden this summer. Makes me so excited when I can walk right out into my back yard to get the produce, rather than drive down the street to the store. 🙂
I’m jealous of your garden starting. We should really start some plants inside soon, but Squirt would just eat them. Can’t put anything in the ground up here for probably another month. Supposed to get 2 inches of snow tomorrow.
Snow would nearly kill me at this point in the year. Thinking warm (and healthy) thoughts for you!!
