Stream of Consciousness: Christmas style

I started this post yesterday afternoon and was ultimately interrupted before I could click “publish.” I hope you’ve had a Merry Christmas and have been able to spend time with loved ones. Seeing as this was a Stream of Consciousness post, I’m going to go ahead posting it and I’ll be back later this week with photos. 🙂

It’s Christmas Eve and I finally have a moment that isn’t 100% chaos. Sure, I have a few gifts left to wrap and about 10 billion loads of laundry to fold, but the house is quiet, both children are sleeping, the husband is at the gym and even Chloe is napping beside me.

I think I’m finally in the Christmas spirit. I think. It’s been a crazy week and it hasn’t felt much like Christmas, until I was wrapping presents last night while watching “Love Actually.” (One of my all-time favorite movies.) Everyone in my household has been sick at some point over the past two weeks and I’ve been fortunate enough to come down with a case of bronchitis just in time for Santa to arrive! Even Chloe is sick. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism this week and starts meds today.

Poor sweet Chloe. Just goes to show that we pet owners have to pay attention to our pet’s normal tendencies! I happened to be taking care of our friends cats and noticed that Chloe’s litter box was filling up so much faster than Ellie and Schroeder’s – combined. I texted a vet friend and called our vet. In the middle of all of this, I actually switched veterinarians. I’m telling you. Chaos. At one point, I was carting a baby and a cat to appointments – and managing not to miss nap time. So lots of money and a few tests later, Chloe is going to be on medication and possibly a diet change for the foreseeable future. Merry Christmas to us.

My boy is over. the. moon. excited about Christmas this year. He told Santa what he wanted, and he received one of his toys he mentioned. He’ll be receiving a second toy that’s kind of like what he asked for – I happen to think it’s cooler. And his little sister will not go without this year. They’ve both been pretty spoiled so far this holiday season, and that is not going to stop in the next few days!

Update: True to form, both children enjoyed Christmas. I know next year will be even more fun for our daughter, but she was just into everything today! She received several fun toys and books, and she loved the bows on all of the presents (I made sure each present had a bow this year – many times I skip the bows.) Our son was so excited when it was time to open gifts. We don’t make a huge deal out of Santa, but Santa did bring one toy and one book. Believe it or not, our boy was so excited about all of the books he received! He really wanted a couple of specific toys, and we bought him one that was similar to what he’d asked for. He must enjoy it because he overlooked the fact that Santa didn’t bring the exact toys and I really expected some sort of fit/tantrum/meltdown to happen.

It was a good day for everyone (even as I try to get rid of this nasty cough.)

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas.
