Stream of Consciousness – week 18 #SOCSaturday #blogging #freewriting
I should be on my way to Raleigh right now, but I’m home. Earlier this week, when I was telling colleagues and friends of my plans to run my half marathon on Sunday, they all agreed that it was not the best idea. I can’t walk without wheezing. (Sometimes when I’m sitting and try to take a deep breath, I’m all wheezy.) The doctor diagnosed me with bronchitis on Monday, and I completed my antibiotics on Friday. I really thought I was going to be 100% by now.
As the week wore on, though, I knew that I made the right decision to back out. There is no way I can run or walk 13 miles tomorrow.
I really am sad that I’m not going to be there. Carol and I had plans to make the most of this race and have a blast. Plus? There are donuts at the finish line. (If you finished, you also receive a cool medal and a finisher’s shirt.)
Instead, I let my son stay up a little late last night (since it was Halloween and the time changes tonight.) I didn’t set an alarm for this morning, so I slept until 8:22. (!!!) Someone had mentioned to me to make fun plans for this weekend, but every time I try to do something rushed – even running after my toddler in church last night – I end up in a coughing fit.
So we have plans to lay low. It snowed overnight. The toddler is having a blast with our inch of snow (it doesn’t even cover all of our leaves!) and I’m just relaxing as much as I can. Catching up on seasons of Top Chef that I’ve missed the past few years.
There will be other races. And there will be other races with Carol. 🙂 I have to keep reminding myself that this missed race is going to be just fine.

Welcome back to another week of Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This is the time where I spend 5 minutes free writing. I usually post this for Saturday morning, but sometimes that just doesn’t happen. It’s totally fine.
Want to participate? The rules….
1. Set a timer for five minutes. (Or keep tabs with your computer’s clock.)
2. Write freely. Any topic. Whatever is on your mind. It doesn’t even have to be completely cohesive.
3. Tag on social media with #SOCSaturday or #SOCSunday and link up below. You have all day Saturday and Sunday to join the link up. It closes Monday morning.
4. Click around and give some comment/blog love.

You made the right decision not to run this time. As you said-there will be other races that you can participate in without passing out from lack of oxygen!!
You definitely made the right decision and as you said there will be lots of other races that you may be able to do.
So frustrating! I’m sorry you didn’t get to run the race. I hate when plans get messed up due to sickness. I hope this week will be much better and that you’ll be back to your old self.
I’m sorry you weren’t able to run, but you did the right thing. Always listen to your body (and your friends.)
Sorry that you had to miss your race. Hope that you feel better soon.
Oh I couldn’t even imagine all that training and work to get bronchitis. BUT I love that you are going slow, not making plans, and just enjoying. It might be a precious moment (a Sunset Moment shall we say!?) later in life.
PS SNOW!?
I’ve got to get our leaves up and burnt before we get a snow that sticks too. Sorry you had to miss your marathon.
I sort of miss snow – is that bad? It has been a while since I’ve been in snow and I grew up with tons of it!
It’s good to take time out to smell the roses. Or in your case, to play in the snow. Our bodies tell us when it’s time to slow down and when it’s time to speed up a little. It is important to pay close attention to our body.
