Stream of Consciousness – week 19 #SOCSaturday #blogging #freewriting #NaBloPoMo
It’s been a strange week in our household. My husband had LASIK on Wednesday and has been somewhat out of commission when it comes to doing the big things since then. He missed all of Wednesday, and our son kind of rebelled on Thursday. I think we’re getting back into the groove of things, Kenny’s eyes are healing and it’s really neat to hear what he can see now compared to pre-LASIK. (His vision was terrible. For real.)
When my in-laws were visiting, we visited a toy store and they bought their grandson the beginning pieces of a wooden train track and some of the Thomas the Train cars. This week, Lucas has gotten into a habit of setting the track up in different shapes, right before bedtime. He wants to do SO. MANY. THINGS. before bed. And the train playing has become part of our routine (so I have moved the beginning stages of bedtime even earlier in the evening.) He has 5 wooden train cars. I bought him one of the plastic ones, not realizing it doesn’t fit the tracks properly. Rookie mom move. Lucas doesn’t seem to notice.
They attach with magnets and he just has a great time pushing them on the track, rearranging the track and pushing them again. It’s fun to watch.
Actual bedtime consists of reading at least 3 books, followed by rocking him in the rocking chair, tucking him in, singing 3 or 4 songs and eventually leaving his room. He then calls for me at least once (if not a dozen times.) If I go in 3 times, I let him know I’m not coming back in.
Last night, bedtime was going as planned. Trains, followed by a cave made out of blankets, rocking, tucking in, etc. I was tired and still not feeling 100%. I just wanted him to go to sleep without a fight. Lucas looked at me and said, “mommy. Tomorrow, you buy me more train tracks?” I replied, “maybe.” (We are actually talking to a friend soon who has Thomas items that her boys have outgrown.) He then said, “when I wake up, you’ll buy me more trains?” I replied, “If you go to sleep right now, I will buy you a train tomorrow.”
Wouldn’t you know he didn’t call for me once?
I owe him a train.

Welcome back to another week of Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This is the time where I spend 5 minutes free writing. I usually post this for Saturday morning, but sometimes that just doesn’t happen. It’s totally fine.
Want to participate? The rules….
1. Set a timer for five minutes. (Or keep tabs with your computer’s clock.)
2. Write freely. Any topic. Whatever is on your mind. It doesn’t even have to be completely cohesive.
3. Tag on social media with #SOCSaturday or #SOCSunday and link up below. You have all day Saturday and Sunday to join the link up. It closes Monday morning.
4. Click around and give some comment/blog love.
Clearly, it’s all about the bedtime routines this week!!! Hope you have fun shopping for a train!
Give that boy a train!!!
I’ve always been so curious about Lasik. Your husband’s eyes could not be as bad as mine. Seriously. I’m blind. For sure.
But I hope he’s healing!!
He should totally get a train. Good boy 🙂
So cute! Little boys sure do love those train sets. My parents bought a huge track and all the trains, but we leave it over there, so every time we go, the boys love playing with everything. Brooks has now taken it to another level and sets up a village and all this crazy stuff around the track. Please buy L a train! He definitely deserves it.
My boys (both) are absolutely addicted to trains. It is a bit insane.
So glad he got LASIK but yes, they are out of commission for a little while.
Love that you all are getting your groove back, you busy mama, and thanks again for hosting this.
