Stream of Consciousness – week 23 #SOCSaturday #blogging #freewriting
I’m writing this from the comforts of my couch, watching the overloaded side of our Christmas tree. I suspect that the toddler may have pulled some of the lights down. They’re pretty criss-crossed and something appears off. It could be the cluster of ornaments Lucas put in that section of the tree. He doesn’t believe in spreading the ornaments out. It’s funny, and I’ve left the ornaments in their original positions since Sunday.
This year may be my favorite tree so far. It’s the same artificial tree we’ve had since our son was 1. I bought it after his first Christmas, when the tree fell over – within feet of him in his swing. We obviously needed a new one (the old tree had a broken base.) I have more lights this year. And silver/gold garland. I’ve not been a huge garland person in the past, but this year I’m digging it.
I love that my son was able to participate in the decorating this year. Last year he was still too small and not grasping the concept that the ornaments weren’t toys. This year, he wanted to place ALL of the ornaments himself.
He even helped me put the tree together. I fully involved him. He helped separate the limbs and even stick some of the lower branches in (with a little assistance from me.) He was so proud to help.
So I sit here. Taking it all in. We don’t get these moments every day, so it’s important to cherish them.

Welcome back to another week of Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This is the time where I spend 5 minutes free writing. I usually post this for Saturday morning, but sometimes that just doesn’t happen. It’s totally fine.
Want to participate? The rules….
1. Set a timer for five minutes. (Or keep tabs with your computer’s clock.)
2. Write freely. Any topic. Whatever is on your mind. It doesn’t even have to be completely cohesive.
3. Tag on social media with #SOCSaturday or #SOCSunday and link up below. You have all day Saturday and Sunday to join the link up. It closes Monday morning.
4. Click around and give some comment/blog love.
(InLinkz is going to be doing maintenance on Saturday night. If you can’t link at that time, feel free to comment and I’ll add you when the InLinkz is back up!)
Decorating the Christmas tree is one of my favorite things to do with my kids. Glad you and your son were able to enjoy it together this year.
I feel the same way! Case was finally “got it” this year, and we all so much fun yesterday decorating the tree. You’re right, we need to take in those special moments. They fly by entirely too quickly.
is garland making a comeback?
