I went into this summer season with lofty hair goals. I want to grow my hair a little bit longer, and I want it to be healthy. My hair journey has been a weird one over the past three years. I mean, three years ago I was pregnant. My hair did AMAZING things during pregnancy. Post-pregnancy it wasn’t terrible. But the further I’ve gotten away from pregnancy, the more trouble I’m having keeping up.
I’m finally, finally! getting to a happy place with my hair and I’m here to share all about it.
My first piece of advice is to find a hairdresser you love – and be open and honest with him/her. I have a regular date with my hair dresser. I started seeing my hairdresser not long after I had my second child. During my last visit, I told her of my plans to go longer, so she trimmed just what needed to be trimmed. No inches off – just enough to keep my hair looking healthy. The above photo was taken in my car, after my hair appointment. I actually had a photo from last year that I showed her and said, “I loved this, and I want my hair to be like that again.” So she did.
Also I have my hairdresser color my hair. We use a semi-permanent (because sometimes it’s 9 or 10 weeks before I see her). While it would be cheaper to color my own hair, I trust her to do a good job and to use a great quality color.
Save on the washing. This summer I’ve been using dry shampoo at least once a week – in between washing it. It gives my hair a break overall, and it just feels less dried out. It also doesn’t get oily when I use a dry shampoo. I’ve been testing out different brands to see which one I absolutely love (I will tell you that I prefer a spray versus the powder that I used to use. The powder just makes my hair look like it’s caked in baby powder.)
And lately I’ve been using Desert Essence hair products. I’m currently using the anti-breakage shampoo and conditioner by Desert Essence and I’m digging the products! I was also sent a smoothing primer and the Smoothing shampoo and Conditioner.
The Desert Essence Anti-Breakage shampoo and conditioner contains Keratin and Pro-Vitamin B5. They also contain Jojoba and Coconut Oils. The products help to minimize breakage and fall. Anyone who has had a baby knows the hair loss after the baby comes can be crazy. I’m STILL dealing with it. And while it’s definitely getting less, I’m hoping the Anti-Breakage line helps.
The Smoothing Primer can be used either after shampoo and conditioner, or in between shampoos as a rinse to help freshen and cleanse your scalp and hair. I’m trying to not wash my hair every day, so this has been a fun little trial.
