Things I’m Loving: August 2017

We’re more than a week into August, and WOW! My baby boy starts school this month – like, full-fledged Kindergarten! This summer is flying by, and it’s so hard to believe that fall is just around the corner. I saw the corn growing tall near our house where the corn maze is every year. Is it really almost corn maze season??

Before we get to fall, let’s discuss a few things I’m loving about August.

The baby gate – and the baby behind it. Every evening when I come home, this little face greets me. (Of course, every morning that little face is distraught as I’m leaving too.)

Toca Boca apps. I honestly had never downloaded anything related to Toca Boca until after I visited Mom 2.0 in May and could see things in person. I’ve downloaded the free apps (and one paid, I believe?) and my son LOVES them. They’re not mindless games, and they entertained him for so much of our time driving to/from DC and New York.

Clearance shoes. My kid literally busted out of his shoes this month. Last week I was horrified to see that the tops of his shoes had holes in them – and nothing was fitting! I did find a pair of shoes at Wee Trade, but ended up buying 3 pairs at Target this weekend. Two pairs were buy 1, get 1 50% off and a third pair happened to be 50% off (on clearance.) You really should hit the clearance racks if you’re needing shoes! We also went to Kohl’s, where I found a pair of shoes that are the NEXT size – and I only paid $8. (Plus, they’re cool Star Wars shoes!) He is set now for school.

Our weather. Something is not right this summer – I mean it’s been unseasonably cool! I’m handling it just fine, but things do feel a little out of whack.

Lunch time workouts. I’ve been NAILING my workouts this week at work! The one day I didn’t go during lunch, I went to the fitness center right after work and it was great. Students are trickling back to campus, so things are getting busier, but it’s ok. There’s new life to the school when the students return.

Diffusing. I just got peppermint, tangerine and grapefruit essential oils and I’ve diffused grapefruit (and am anxious to try tangerine next.) I totally diffused Stress Away this week at work, and it was amazing. I don’t know why it works as well as it does, but I’m a believer.

Travel. We have one more very quick trip later this month, and just before school starts. I haven’t even told my son we’re doing anything. I may wait until we’re on our way before telling him. 🙂

Party planning and phoning it in. My son is turning 6 this month, we’re throwing his party early (as in next week, even though his birthday is at the very end of the month) and for the first time, I’ve ordered his cake so we had something he likes. I could not stress about it any more, and for his actual birthday I’ll make him a smaller cake. His party will not be at our house, food will be purchased where we’re holding the party, and things will be SO MUCH EASIER.

What I’m NOT loving: Whatever is attacking my garden. Something is eating my tomatoes, and they are covered in netting. The flowers on my squash plants have been snapped right off. I don’t know how to save anything! If you have garden tips, please let me know. I have chicken wire around my boxes, netting over the tomatoes, and I’m barely getting anything off my plants before it’s being eaten/stolen. I would LOVE to salvage one of my butternut squashes and a few tomatoes – and maybe one cucumber before all is said and done!

What are you loving this month? And what do you think is taking out my garden??
