this is why it’s called "work"

I worked a crazy shift yesterday. I worked from home in the morning, went into the office at 10:30, home again at 5, and then back to the office at 7:30 p.m. to make sure all was good with high school football stuff.

All was good until 12:30 this morning. I got a call at 1:30 and ended up working (from home) until 2:30 a.m. I haven’t been woken up like that in over a year, and it was crazy. Chloe didn’t understand why I was on the computer at that hour, I could barely see the screen and it didn’t help that I had to wake up at 6 to go running.

To make matters worse, the problem wasn’t even something that we (at my newspaper) did. It was controlled by another company, so nothing I could have done would have fixed it.

The rest of the day has been pretty great. A 7-mile run this morning in south Asheville, a two-hour nap while my husband did the grocery shopping (I know, I’m pretty lucky) and then lunch at Olive Garden. We even went to Target and I walked out of there empty-handed. How often does that happen??

I’m beginning preparations for my dessert party on August 31. I need to make sure I have all ingredients so I’m not rushing around for them next weekend. Other than that, I think I have about 2 weeks worth of laundry to fold, and a house to clean up. Kenny heads back to school (kids show up Tuesday) and life is about to get chaotic again. It would be great if we could afford for one of us to stay home and tend to the house every day!!
