I think “balance” is my word this year. I need to try to find the balance in my life. Then I need to work to maintain it. I love doing all the things and being good at all the things, but I can’t do that. We only have 24 hours in a day and in the first week of 2015, I am crashing.
So. Balance.
1. I’ve been doing Jillian Michaels one-week shred this week. I made it through the first few days no problem. And then I could not wake up early to get the strength workout in. And I do not do well with workout at night. I’m exhausted after working. How can a person then work out, and still be a decent wife and mom? Evening workouts just aren’t my thing (and kudos to you if they are your thing.)
2. I don’t think I’ve ever done a word of the year. Resolutions? Yes. Goals? For sure. A word of the year? This is new to me. I don’t want to seem like I’m jumping on a bandwagon…but I’m jumping on the word of the year bandwagon. Sorry about that, friends.
3. It appears to be so cold EVERYWHERE, except maybe Florida? I’m planning a work trip to Florida. This trip is out of control with where I’ll be and when, but at least it will be warm in February. I need warmth. It is 1 degree in my neck of the woods – with a colder windchill. My car was not itself this morning. It needs warmth too.
Together, my car and I will find balance this year.
Do you do a word of the year or set goals for the new year? (I personally prefer “goals” versus “resolutions.” Just sounds nicer and more achievable.)

FANTASTIC WORD!!! I used it a couple of years ago, it served me well.
I do OLW & have for several years– I am struggling this year though, usually the word picks me in November but I am leaning toward Make: Make do, Make food homemade, Make scrap BOOKS-not just pages, Make myself ready for my future change….. also considering re-visiting focus… “oh look, squirrel….”
This year I am also doing goals..1)complete certain years of scrapbooks, which means ordering photos on a schedule, 2)get & keep certain areas of the house ‘realtor ready’, 3)walk 3x/week, run 5 5ks

Great word and something I think a lot of people struggle with – I know I do. I hope 2015 is more balanced for us all. x

It is freezing even all the way down here in SC! I think that balance is a very good word for the year. Trying to balance it all is very difficult for me even though my kids are grown. I can’t imagine having to do it with a job and children at home. Good luck with yours, don’t stress about the evening work out play with your kids instead, make it fun!
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I need it to be warm, too. It is 0 here today with a -23 windchill. We are dying up here in Boston….
Chrystal @ YUM eating says
Over here in Michigan too. Today I wonder if the wind is going to blow my house down. Brrrr
Krystal says
I don’t do resolutions or goal for the new year. I don’t like the idea of doing something special for the year. My goals are ever present no matter what month it is.
Liz Mays says
I think a word of the year is a nice idea. Reminding yourself of a word can change your outlook and behavior for all of your actions instead of specific goals.
Lesley says
I am still adjusting to the fact that we are in a new year! WOW! Time does sure fly by. I have a hard time with balance and focusing myself. Good word, wish you the very best finding balance!
Tracie says
Oh my gosh. Balance is so much my focus for this year. I’ve even been thinking about it for my word of the year (but I’m still undecided – it is still a word of the year if I pick it in February, right?).
Also! I pulled out my Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred dvd right before the first of the year, and I’ve actually been doing it. Which is pretty unbelievable for me.
One last thing (and seriously – not to make your post all about me, but it was just so much where I am right now)….I’m in Florida! And you know what? It is warm here. You should come down and visit. Not that you have to visit me personally, but visit Florida and warm up. You, and your car, will love it!

my word is “Cherish” – i’m blessed with so much, yet its easy to become complacent, or worse yet grumpy.
Michele says
I definitely do not do resolutions and have never done a word for the year either. I refuse to set goals for myself because for me I just get too darn stressed out from them!! I truly hope you are able to find balance in your life. Pretty cold here too-and wind chill-I’m trying to forget I was outside in that today!!
Mama to 5 BLessings says
I live in Florida. Too bad it’s a work trip and not pleasure – there is so much to do and see!
Annie says
It’s been pretty cold in California! However, our coastal areas in the Bay Area was like 72-80 over the weekend, what?!
Lois Alter Mark says
Balance is a great word – and I hope you achieve it. My word this year is improve – because I have a lot of areas that need to!
Alice Chase says
I am not an evening workout person either. In fact I am supposed to be up in just a few hours for a 6 am class.
Kay Adeola says
That is a great word and I think we all struggle to find the right balance in our lives but I hope that we can all get it this year :).
Lisa Ladrido says
I have never done resolutions. I have done goal posters, etc but not only in the beginning of the new year. It keeps me focused. I would love to work out, but haven’t been able to recently. Walking would be a start!
Chrystal @ YUM eating says
Balance is a pretty awesome word. It can be hard to find the right balance between work, life, husbands, kids and general family. I think my word for the year is going to be Wellness.
Pam says
Balance is a great word but yet can be so hard to achieve for many. And everyone’s balance is different so sometimes it is hard to judge when you might achieve your own balance. I like goals better than resolutions too.
Mariana says
I also haven’t had the best week- a few inches of snow really messed with my productivity! I don’t have a word of the year but do set goals for the new year… this year it’s all about wellness!
April Grant says
Funny… I can speak to all three of your points. I certainly am not an evening work out person, if it’s not done first thing in the morning, just forget it!
Hey, jump on the word of the year. I did last year, and I will say that it was extremely helpful. Instead of focusing on what I did accomplish with respect to my goals, I was able to really get real things done… my word of last year was Consistency and I was MUCH more consistent in doing the things I picked up. This year is more of a phrase… BE UNCOMFORTABLE.
And yes, it’s warm here in FL. I think the coldest day in the last few weeks was 65. I’m not that excited about it, I miss at least a little cold in winter, but hey, I’m not going to be too mad.
Hope your year of BALANCE goes great!
Tough Cookie Mommy says
Finding balance is easier said than done. I’m hoping to find some balance for myself this year.
Paula Shuck says
Balance is such a great word to base your year on! Love it! So important to be able to pay attention to every aspect of life.

It is so hard to find true balance, there is just so much to do and I sometimes get really lost; time management is very difficult!
