Tips for getting your vehicle winter-ready
Winter arrives very soon, and for some the winter weather has already started. Get your car ready for the snowy season with these tips!
This post is a collaboration, and as always opinions are my own.
It feels like we were just getting ready for summer, and now we’re in the middle of the holiday season which is bringing the salt, sand and snow – and not the fun kind of salt or sand. Just as we would switch out our wardrobes as seasons change, it’s time to switch up how we’re taking care of our vehicle for the next season.
Have you had a tune-up recently? I like to get one done in between seasons. Sometimes the mechanics can find something I may not catch on my own.
Consider wiper fluid that is all-season or made for cold weather. All the salt on the roads leads to grime on your car and it’s helpful if you can clear your windshield without your wiper fluid being frozen.
Schedule a car wash in those rare warm(er) winter days to help avoid damage to the body of your car because of excessive salt or sand on the roads.
Check your emergency preparedness kit in the car. Just in case you get stuck, make sure you have a blanket, flashlight, maybe some snacks. While I think water would be an added bonus, it also freezes and is not much use when it’s frozen! Bust out the ice scraper and make sure it’s accessible. Have some extra gloves? Toss them into your car, along with a hat. You never know when you’re going to need them.
This is the time to check your tires! Do you need new tires? Or are you the type to change out your tires for winter? Get on them now. Nobody needs to get stuck in snow because of low tread on your tires.
