training Tuesday – races in mind

I’m definitely not running a half marathon this fall, but I officially have races in mind.

There’s a 5k in October I’d like to do (it benefits breast cancer research and provides mammograms to local women.) I think I’ve also mentioned the Positive Prevention 12k. I ran that one last year, and it kind of jump started my marathon training. This will not be jump starting anything other than maintaining healthy weight during the holidays.

This weekend I heard about a local color run (5k). They claim to not be a “race” and the goal is to have fun. I’ve been wanting to run a color run for a while. The closest one I had seen was in Johnson City next month, but that’s still an hour drive. I really need a local race.

The color run is actually the same weekend of the 12k. I’m thinking I can do both, though. The 5k is on Saturday afternoon, while the 12k is Sunday morning.

I’m pretty excited. The 12k was a fun time with Carol last year, and it benefits a great group. The 5k is going to be so much fun.

As for training this past week, I ran on Tuesday and Wednesday and then I did a quick run on Monday. That. was. it. We traveled on Thursday and Sunday, and on Friday and Saturday we did our fair share of walking, so I guess that’s exercise. (Despise my somewhat unhealthy eating habits, my weight was not up this morning. Go, me!)

Now it’s time to get motivated again and actually take running seriously.

What races do you have in mind for the fall?

  1. I keep wanting to do a color run! There’s one that comes to Lawrence, but it’s the same day as a 5k Pat and I do because it supports the scholarship he receives, so I’ve always prioritized that one. Maybe someday!

I want to find more races for the fall but I’m just so poor, I couldn’t sign up for them anyway. I have my half Sept. 8 and the 5k with Pat the next weekend (which I haven’t actually registered for yet because again, lacking in the funds…) but I’d like to find some more once I get paid again!

    1. If only these races were free!! I haven’t officially signed up for any because the price doesn’t change for early registration (and one of the races is $50.) So I’ll do it soon, but I’m not in a rush unless I know it’s going to fill up.

  2. Everyone I know who has done a color run has loved it, though one of my friends who has blonde hair really wish she wore at hat as her hair was colorful for quite a while
