Training Tuesday: Training for a fall half marathon #fitfluential #halfmarathon #training
It’s been many, many weeks since I’ve posted a Training Tuesday post. I’ll admit…I got a little burnt out on training. But I’m still working out, and I do have a goal race in mind.
November 2 I’ll be running the City of Oaks Half Marathon. I’m pretty excited about this race. It’s my first half marathon in Raleigh, I’m running it with Carol, and I’m hoping to possibly meet Danica that weekend as she’s running the full marathon (and I’ve been a long time reader of hers!)
This past weekend I set out with my friend Suzanne to run 8 miles. We ended up with 9 miles. I didn’t think my legs had it in them to go 9, but I really wasn’t sore after that run. I’m doing something right! Also, I woke up super early on a Saturday so I could run with Suzanne. It takes some serious dedication to wake up at 5:15 for a 6 a.m. run. (I also don’t like running alone.)
Now, my toes are a hot mess. I walked 3 laps around Ikea on Wednesday, in wedge sandles, like a fool. I had so many blisters that I’m still dealing with.
View from this past weekend’s run.
My training has consisted of many treadmill runs and alternating days on the elliptical. I’ve even been doing a few weight workouts.
Last week, I downloaded an abs workout app – it has workouts in 5, 8 or 10-minute increments. I’ve done the 5-minute workout twice and it has definitely done something. My abs were still sore 3 days after the first workout.
At the end of August, I think I missed a whole week of working out. I missed it. I was angry and sluggish and just overall not good. And when it came time to finally get back in the groove of working out, I wasn’t motivated – but my body so needed it. As did my attitude.
So I’m back in the groove of things. I like being back in the groove.
Do you work out consistently? Do you switch up your fitness routine?
9 miles again?? OMG! I’m so happy for you. That’s awesome! Sounds like a great run and race you signed up for.
I think we all fall out of the groove for working out from time to time. Glad yo hare back at it. When is your half marathon? I have one later this month.
Oh no – BOO for blisters! Glad that you’re back into the swing of things. I love walking on a treadmill (although I don’t do it nearly enough) but ellipticals. Shew mannn! Those are MEAN!
I workout every day, but I do switch it up. I do zumba, spin, body pump and I am in martial arts training.
I am into a routine of just walking because i enjoy it. Son’t change it much.
That’s awesome that you’re training for a half marathon! I’m happy to cheer you on but will be playing tennis instead of running along with you!
Keep up the hard work, you’re going to be able to do it!
I want to get back into running. I don’t run on pavement though and I hear that’s harder.
Yay for being back in the groove! I am getting ready to start a workout this week, actually. I’ve been having a lot of issues hampering me with a bad ankle from a sprain last year. Gotta start getting it strong now!
Because I have issues with my back, I should work out consistently.. but I don’t. When I do, my back is great.
I wish I worked out consistently! I need to find my motivation.
What ab app did you download? I’m interested! I couldn’t tell you the last time I actually worked those out…hah! I was super consistent with my marathon training for 8 weeks solid, then I burned our and half way did my workouts.. But I’m back on track now! I think we all need that time to step away from being total bad mama jammas once in a while. Rest is good for the soul. Plus, it gets you pumped back up to get going strong again!! New reader here. I look forward to following you. 🙂
Do a search for abs workout in the app store. It’s the Daily Ab Workout by Daily Workout Apps, LLC. I’m using the free version. 🙂

I need to get my butt into gear. I want to get more into running consistently 🙂
I do workout every day, even if it’s only for 15 min. If i don’t get some kind of workout in (yoga is my fave), then I feel…blah. I need to start running again though, I kinda stopped before I ever got really into it.
A nine mile run? You GO GIRL! I’m looking for a running buddy in my area, I feel like I’d get so much more out of my training if I had one. Do tell the name of this ab-working app you found!

I don’t work out. I really need to. I have been itching to join the gym around the corner from my house but I am afraid that I wouldn’t use it. I really want to but I feel so guilty taking time for just me. I know it would be beneficial for me and the family but……I am just overthinking it probably.
Congrats on your first run. While I’m not a runner myself, I know how much fun and how rewarding they can be from all of the hard work. You should be proud of yourself, for participating!
my mind is too lazy and I am extremely inconsistent.
hope you get rid of your blisters soon
I’m not in a routine at the moment, but when I’m working out, I feel SO much better. I usually switch it up daily.
I don’t work out consistently, although I really need to. I just have to find the right routine. Good luck with your training!
I need to find my grove. I’m learning the only thing that works to shed the weight is running… However with my family’s new schedules.. I can’t find the time to run. Its KILLING ME!!!!! It scares the poop right out of me to run in the dark.. I gotta figure something out though.
are you doing speed work for the half? mine is nov 1st, and i’m torn between racing it, and enjoying it as a run.
I’m not technically doing speed workout, but sometimes I treat the treadmill as a speed workout.
Nice! I love how addictive exercise gets. I do 3x a week, although I’ve been weak the past month so I’ve taken a break.
I really don’t have a consistent workout routine…but I should. I know the health benefits, but it’s easier to get “un-motivated” than to keep going. Will try to start again!!
Congrats on being able to run your 9 miles…wow – awesome! Good luck on the half marathon!!
I can’t run long distances anymore because of my bunions.
I really wish I loved to run…seriously, unless somebody’s chasing me, forget it. However, put some wheels under me and I am good to go all day. What is that AB workout you downloaded? Sounds like a good one.

Wow, that is really something to be proud of. I have added a lot of physical activity to my daily routine.
I’m so excited for you, that is a tremendous accomplishment. I’m sure that all your hard work will pay off in the end.
I like to maintain a consistent routine too. Over the summer I slacked off but I’m back on track now too.
