It’s been many, many weeks since I’ve posted a Training Tuesday post. I’ll admit…I got a little burnt out on training. But I’m still working out, and I do have a goal race in mind.

November 2 I’ll be running the City of Oaks Half Marathon. I’m pretty excited about this race. It’s my first half marathon in Raleigh, I’m running it with Carol, and I’m hoping to possibly meet Danica that weekend as she’s running the full marathon (and I’ve been a long time reader of hers!)

This past weekend I set out with my friend Suzanne to run 8 miles. We ended up with 9 miles. I didn’t think my legs had it in them to go 9, but I really wasn’t sore after that run. I’m doing something right! Also, I woke up super early on a Saturday so I could run with Suzanne. It takes some serious dedication to wake up at 5:15 for a 6 a.m. run. (I also don’t like running alone.)

Now, my toes are a hot mess. I walked 3 laps around Ikea on Wednesday, in wedge sandles, like a fool. I had so many blisters that I’m still dealing with.

View from this past weekend’s run.

My training has consisted of many treadmill runs and alternating days on the elliptical. I’ve even been doing a few weight workouts.

Last week, I downloaded an abs workout app – it has workouts in 5, 8 or 10-minute increments. I’ve done the 5-minute workout twice and it has definitely done something. My abs were still sore 3 days after the first workout.

At the end of August, I think I missed a whole week of working out. I missed it. I was angry and sluggish and just overall not good. And when it came time to finally get back in the groove of working out, I wasn’t motivated – but my body so needed it. As did my attitude.

So I’m back in the groove of things. I like being back in the groove.

Do you work out consistently? Do you switch up your fitness routine?

  1. I think we all fall out of the groove for working out from time to time. Glad yo hare back at it. When is your half marathon? I have one later this month.

  2. What ab app did you download? I’m interested! I couldn’t tell you the last time I actually worked those out…hah! I was super consistent with my marathon training for 8 weeks solid, then I burned our and half way did my workouts.. But I’m back on track now! I think we all need that time to step away from being total bad mama jammas once in a while. Rest is good for the soul. Plus, it gets you pumped back up to get going strong again!! New reader here. I look forward to following you. 🙂

  3. I do workout every day, even if it’s only for 15 min. If i don’t get some kind of workout in (yoga is my fave), then I feel…blah. I need to start running again though, I kinda stopped before I ever got really into it.

  4. A nine mile run? You GO GIRL! I’m looking for a running buddy in my area, I feel like I’d get so much more out of my training if I had one. Do tell the name of this ab-working app you found!

  5. I don’t work out. I really need to. I have been itching to join the gym around the corner from my house but I am afraid that I wouldn’t use it. I really want to but I feel so guilty taking time for just me. I know it would be beneficial for me and the family but……I am just overthinking it probably.

  6. I need to find my grove. I’m learning the only thing that works to shed the weight is running… However with my family’s new schedules.. I can’t find the time to run. Its KILLING ME!!!!! It scares the poop right out of me to run in the dark.. I gotta figure something out though.

  7. I really don’t have a consistent workout routine…but I should. I know the health benefits, but it’s easier to get “un-motivated” than to keep going. Will try to start again!!

Congrats on being able to run your 9 miles…wow – awesome! Good luck on the half marathon!!
