Another week closer to the marathon, and I just haven’t been running like I should be. I’m taking care of that, though. (Really, I am.)

Tuesday – 3ish miles (a little further than 3 miles, but I didn’t keep track of exact distance.)
Wednesday – walked.
Thursday – drove a lot.
Friday – 12 miles
Saturday – walked.
Sunday – drove and drove and drove.

And that was it. Two runs, two walks. Not good.

My 12-miler was surprisingly great. I ran in Lake Waccamaw, so it was flat. It was very cold when I started out, and I was wearing new running pants (Under Armour cold weather pants.) The pants made me very hot. I ran out 3 miles, back to the house (3 miles) and met up with my husband. He ran 1.2 miles with me, and then he turned around. I continued on for almost 2 more miles, and turned back around. He met up with me at my 10-mile point, with water, and I finished my run in 2 hours, 12 minutes. A pace of 11:04 minutes per mile. I’ll take it!!

Now, the plan. My boss is trying to start running during her lunch hour. I talked to her this morning and we’re going to start running once or twice a week together, during lunch. My goal is to at least run on Monday and Wednesday with her. And then my long runs on Saturday. I have 8 more weeks of training, so this will hopefully help! (Tomorrow’s my first attempt at this new plan, so wish me luck!)

training Wednesday: marathon training week 6

I skipped posting yesterday, for obvious reasons (we were celebrating Christmas! Duh!) So here is my latest marathon training update.

Tuesday – Ran 2.5 miles

Wednesday – Ran 2 miles.

Thursday – Walked.

Saturday – ran 11 miles, walked 1 mile. For a total of 12 miles.

Sunday – walked.

Tuesday – 3 miles running, 1 mile walking.

I’m including my walking in there (and probably will include it the rest of training.) It usually involves a mile or two of walking with the baby and husband. And…it’s something.

My 12-miler on Saturday sucked. I downloaded several hours worth of podcasts to my shuffle on Friday night, in hopes they would keep me company for a lonely long run. Then my iPod wouldn’t play the podcasts. It was freezing, and I mentally checked out before I had even completed half of a mile. I ran 8.2 miles, called it quits and later thought about the run. I went on a walk with the baby (for one mile) and when I was done there, I grabbed my other iPod and listened to a podcast while running 3 miles. I felt so much better on the last 3 miles. It felt like I had time to give myself the pep talk my body obviously needed.

I have another 12-miler this weekend. I’m taking both iPods, and will probably run with the one that plays podcasts. I’m going to see if Kenny can meet me either at every 3 miles or at my halfway point, just so I have a water stop and company to say hi to. Also, I’m probably running Friday, rather than Saturday. We’ll be traveling, I’ll be on my own and it’s supposed to rain a lot on Saturday.

Oh, and my 3-miler on Christmas Day was amazing. I started out in hopes of running 2 or 2.25 miles. I had no Garmin, no music and I found myself at 1.5 miles feeling awesome. Turned around, finished out the run and when I got home, we went on a family walk. I love those kinds of days.

Finally, no pilates this past week, but I’m ok with that. Will get back into it.
