upside to my week: Ingrid Michaelson

So Ingrid Michaelson was in town last night. She played at the Grey Eagle, and this is one show I’ve been looking forward to since September. This was my fourth time seeing her perform live and it was probably the first time I’ve seen her with a full band (it’s usually her and one other person.) I’ve interviewed her (about two years ago) and met her at one of her shows, and wasn’t impressed by her personality (though she has WONDERFUL stage presence) but thought I’d give her a second shot at an interview. You can read the Q&A here.

We had a pretty rough day, so I was really looking forward to the show. We decided to eat dinner at the Grey Eagle….along with hundreds of other people. It took over an hour to get chicken fingers, fried green tomatoes and fries. I quickly realized we were surrounded by college students (most were under 21) and overheard many conversations about parties and drinking beer. Oh to be 20 again….

The husband left before Ingrid even performed (that’s how bad the day was) and I found a friend who was there with some of her other friends. We made our way to the front of the venue and all was great until four 20-year-olds decided to stand in front of us (and they were several inches taller.) I did tell one to move on over. She obliged. About an hour into the show, I headed to the back where I then met up with the husband (he came back to get me and listen to the end of the show.)

All in all, a good concert. It was way too crowded for my taste, but Ingrid was phenomenal. Allie Moss usually sings with her, but lost her voice before last night’s performance, so Ingrid brought up a random girl from the audience. The girl’s name is Molly, and she was really, really excited about singing The Chain with Ingrid. I got the whole thing on video…sorry for the shakiness!
