Valentine’s Day….in kid form.

A few weeks ago, I asked L’s daycare teacher if the kids would be having a Valentine’s Day party. I also had to confirm the day of the party. Strange, right? Except, not really. The last party I tried to contribute to, I was apparently a day late. Another mom brought everything the day before the planned party date – and I wasn’t informed. I was determined to be “that mom” and make today a good one for the kids.

I made goody bags that contained Playdoh and heart-shaped fruit snacks. Each kid received two small cans of Playdoh and two packs of the snacks. All were from Target. The Playdoh cost $5 for 15 cans (in Valentine’s Day colors – red, pink, white). The snacks were $5 (and we have a ton left over) and the cello bags came from the dollar spot.

For treats, I went the route of sugar cookies with no icing. The teacher and I agreed that the kids didn’t need icing. I found my never-before-used heart-shaped cookie cutters (and cookie stamps) and set out on my mission of creating cute cookies. Tuesday night, I made the dough (and I made it pink with red food coloring!)

I think they turned out fairly well. The first batch ended up a little dark. I ended up with 3 dozen cookies and they were pretty quick to make, since I didn’t have to do icing.

The kids (and adults) enjoyed the cookies immensely. The kids loved their treat bags. I think I redeemed myself as super mom. 🙂

My husband and I had a low-key Valentine’s Day celebration this evening, complete with pizza from a local place. I gave him a home brewing kit (and soap made with one of his favorite local beers!) He gave me tickets to see New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men this summer. My best friend and I are pretty darn excited. (The husband doesn’t want to really go to the concert and told me to invite someone.)

How was your day?
