visit to Pearl Harbor
The day we hiked Diamond Head, we also visited Pearl Harbor. I’m warning you now….I’m about to post 12 photos.
We had time to read about Pearl Harbor and watch videos about the day of the attack at Pearl Harbor. One of the things I had heard, but never really thought about was the USS Arizona is still underwater – and oil is still leaking from the ship. I got a few photos (because it isn’t a constant leak, I don’t know what causes the oil spots to randomly appear.) It was really eerie to me that the ship was still underwater. I don’t know why that creeps me out. I can only imagine the pain felt by family members who lost someone in that attack.
One of my photos is of someone’s lei they left inside the memorial – and the names beneath are of men and women who passed away and have been interred with their shipmates.
We had about a two-hour wait time before getting on a boat to go over to the memorial. If you ever make it to Oahu, you have to visit Pearl Harbor. It’s a must.
wow, great photos. It really makes you stop and think. The boat underwater creeps me out too – just like the Titanic being underwater still.
