Ways to bring calm to the holiday season

I’m such a sucker for the holiday season. I feel like the holidays may start with my birthday in October, but things get real at Thanksgiving. It feels like there’s much more time between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, yet I know the next few weeks are going to fly by and I don’t want to get to the new year and regret not taking a few minutes to slow down. We have a few things we do to make sure we fight the holiday chaos and bring calm to the holiday season (and I want to hear what your traditions are!)

View the lights. A few years ago, our arboretum started doing a light show and it was so fun to walk through. This year, they’ve moved part of it downtown, and we’ll take at least one evening to spend walking around just looking at the lights. Before we head out, we’ll probably have pizza so we’re not having to stress about one more thing to do that day. But both kids love seeing lights – and they both enjoy Red Baron pizza!

Movie night. My son is a sucker for a good Charlie Brown special. The Halloween movie, Thanksgiving and the Christmas movies? We don’t miss them. I have a variety of holiday movies I love watching in December, and we make sure to watch the holiday Christmas movies – usually while also eating Red Baron pizza. Because what is movie night without pizza?

My son clearly loves pepperoni. The Red Baron Brick Oven pepperoni pizza is perfect for him. And if pizza makes him happy, then we’re all happy.

Bake and decorate cookies. I already bought icing for our cookies and I’ll make my go-to sugar cookie dough in a couple of weeks, but we’ll spend a weekend (probably the same weekend we watch a lot of movies) just baking and decorating cookies. My son LOVES doing this every year and I love the variety of cookies we get out of our cookie sessions.

So I do a good amount of meal planning, and during the school year, I tend to have pizza on the menu a lot. We have a large freezer and I keep two pizzas on hand for the nights we don’t feel like cooking an elaborate meal, or the nights we want to kick back and watch movies. The Red Baron pizzas are going to be a lot cheaper than getting something delivered, and they taste much better!

As we get in the middle of this holiday season, I’m going to continue meal planning, and making sure we have Red Baron pizzas in the freezer. I’m even wondering if Santa would like a slice of pizza left out versus cookies?
