We made it to Lake Waccamaw and it only took an extra hour. Somehow we managed to leave SO MUCH earlier than we normally do but hit major traffic outside of Lumberton (exit 14 on I-95 when you re-enter NC from SC.) We spent over 30 minutes trying to get from milemarker 9 to milemarker 10, where we finally got off and used my trusty VZ Navigator to find our way to Whiteville. From there, it was a breeze. Can’t say we didn’t like the adventure, either!

We also witnessed an “almost accident” today. In the previously mentioned traffic, we were actually at a standstill when someone decided to drive more than 30 miles per hour and not pay attention to the car that was stopped. He swerved to the left (into the median) while the car behind him swerved to the right (into us) and my awesome driver busted out his swerving moves and avoided the idiots that were driving too fast for a construction zone and for all of the traffic that was sitting still. We luckily got out of that one unhurt and all that was left was a tiremark or two on the newly paved interstate.

We’re heading to Myrtle Beach in the morning to do some shopping. I’m pretty excited about it. We had a fun time last year on our shopping trip. Not sure what we’ll be doing Friday, but I know we’ll be doing our final “long” run on Saturday morning….with the alligators out in full force! I saw a couple this evening. I hope they remain in their canals and let me run my 12 miles in peace.

I’ve already finished a book on this trip. (It was a Shopaholics book – the one where she gets married.) I have two more to complete (one that I’m halfway through and a new one.) I love roadtrips. I tend to read more on trips than when I’m at home. My bed at home makes me very sleepy šŸ™‚

We’re definitely missing our cat, too. Poor Chloe. Her first night by herself. We have two great catsitters (my mom and friend Ros) who are tending to her, but it isn’t the same….and I hope Chloe still likes us when we return on Sunday.
