we run DC

I’m running a half marathon this morning. This is also my first visit to Washington DC – ever. So you can imagine just how much rest my legs have gotten this weekend.

We arrived on Friday and immediately went to Georgetown to get our bibs. We walked and walked and walked. And then we walked some more.

On Saturday I ran on a treadmill for 2.5 miles. And then I walked all over DC. We had been walking for roughly two hours and then walked 1.5 miles to meet our friend for lunch. (And then we walked back – over 2 miles – to the National Mall.) By last night, I was exhausted.

So my goals for this race are:
–Have fun!
–Take photos of the sights we have not seen yet.
–Finish in 2 hours, 30 minutes.
–Get the Tiffany necklace and finisher’s t-shirt – both of which we will not get if we do not complete the race.

Six years ago this weekend I ran my first full marathon. I had never run a half marathon (race) before that day. Nashville was amazing and will always be one of my favorite race cities. Today marks my ninth half marathon (I’ve run 5 full marathons). DC has a lot to live up to, in order to be a favorite of mine (I think my half marathon in Canada ranks up there as one of my favorite races.)

I’m excited. Let’s do this.

  1. My first half was in Vegas and the night before we walked like 3 miles up & down the strip. I was so pumped up though to run, I absolutely did not care that my legs were already sore! Haha.
