week 2: back to running

I’m currently in my second week of running – and I have a race this weekend! The Power of Pink relay is this Saturday, and I’m lucky enough to be needed for a team. I’ve run this race a few times and while it’s a tough course (lots of hills), it’s a lot of fun. The relay is only women, and we usually get great shirts!

The entire relay is 20 miles, and there are five members on each team, so I have to run 4 miles. I’ve been lucky enough to have my mom working different shifts at work, so she’s been able to watch Lucas for 30-45 minutes while I run.

Last I blogged, I was running about 2 miles. On Friday, I decided to push it a little further and completed 3 miles. Each time I’ve run, I’ve managed to get faster mile splits. On Friday, I was down to about 11:30 minutes per mile. On Sunday, I ran 11:15 miles, and Monday I ran 11:10/minute miles! I’m getting faster!

My goal is to run on today and either Thursday or Friday this week. It’ll be a little trickier since I won’t be able to rely on my mom for child care. The race is Saturday morning, and then I won’t be so worried about when I’m going to run. In fact, I think that next week I’m going to get back to some of my workouts on DVD. (Jillian Michaels 30-day shred, anyone?) Those workouts are only about 25 minutes long, and can be done easily while the baby sleeps.

It’s good to be back. I’ll feel even better when this race is out of the way. I feel like a newbie!
